【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국수력원자력(사장 황주호, 이하 한수원)이 14일 대전 한수원 중앙연구원에서 미국전력연구원(EPRI)과 함께 ‘25년도 Plant Performance 워크숍’을 열어 원자력발전소의 디지털 전환과 운영 혁신 방안을 논의했다.

이번 워크숍에는 한수원 중앙연구원 연구진과 실무자를 비롯해 국내외 디지털 기술 전문가 약 40여 명이 참석해 글로벌 기술 동향을 공유하고 발전소 운영의 효율성 및 안전성을 높이기 위한 다양한 사례를 발표했다.

특히, 한수원이 발전소에서 실제 운영 중인 인공지능(AI) 기반 원전 정비 빅데이터 구축 사례와 전력설비의 디지털 검증 및 확인 절차 등 원전 현대화를 위한 디지털 전환 사례가 큰 주목을 받았다. 

현재 한수원 중앙연구원이 주도하는 AI 기술 적용 사례는 원전의 업무 생산성 향상뿐만 아니라 원전 수출에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대된다.

신호철 한수원 중앙연구원장은 “디지털 기술을 기반으로 한 데이터 중심의 의사결정과 설비 운영이 원전의 안전성과 효율성을 크게 개선할 것”이라며 “앞으로도 미국전력연구원과 협력을 강화하며 글로벌 디지털 전환 기술을 선도하는 연구개발에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Joo-ho, hereinafter referred to as KHNP) held the ‘25th Plant Performance Workshop’ with the US Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) at the KHNP Central Research Institute in Daejeon on the 14th to discuss digital transformation of nuclear power plants and operational innovation plans.

About 40 KHNP Central Research Institute researchers and practitioners, as well as domestic and international digital technology experts, attended this workshop to share global technology trends and present various cases to improve the efficiency and safety of power plant operation.

In particular, KHNP’s case of establishing big data for nuclear power plant maintenance based on artificial intelligence (AI) that is actually being operated at power plants and digital transformation cases for nuclear power plant modernization, such as digital verification and confirmation procedures for power facilities, received much attention.

The AI ​​technology application cases currently led by KHNP Central Research Institute are expected to have a positive impact not only on improving the work productivity of nuclear power plants but also on nuclear power plant exports.

Shin Ho-chul, head of the Central Research Institute of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., said, “Data-centric decision-making and facility operation based on digital technology will greatly improve the safety and efficiency of nuclear power plants,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen cooperation with the U.S. Electric Power Research Institute and do our best to conduct research and development that leads global digital transformation technology.”
