【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시가 ‘배터리 산업도시’로서의 위상을 다시 한 번 입증했다. 시는 16일 서울 중구 신라호텔에서 열린 ‘2025 대한민국 대표브랜드 대상’ 시상식에서 해당 부문 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

‘대한민국 대표브랜드 대상’은 소비자들이 직접 지역·산업·문화 분야의 브랜드를 평가해 우수 브랜드를 선정하는 상으로, 올해로 20주년을 맞았다. 동아닷컴, iMBC, 한경닷컴이 공동 주최하며, 올해 배터리 산업도시 부문에는 전국 8개 지자체가 경쟁에 참여했다.

포항시는 브랜드 가치, 마케팅 활동, 소비자 평가 등 모든 부문에서 높은 점수를 받으며 대상을 차지했다. 특히 이 부문에서 2022년 처음 수상한 이후 4년 연속 대상을 이어가며 배터리 산업 거점 도시로서의 저력을 재확인했다.

포항시는 2017년 에코프로의 지역 투자 유치를 시작으로, 2019년 배터리 리사이클링 규제자유특구 지정, 이차전지 기업들의 영일만 및 블루밸리 국가산단 입주 등으로 관련 산업 기반을 빠르게 다져왔다.

또한 2023년에는 ‘이차전지 국가첨단전략산업 특화단지’로, 지난해에는 ‘이차전지 기회발전특구’로 지정되며, 산단 인프라 확충과 세제 혜택, 행정 지원 등이 활발히 이뤄지고 있다. 이는 기업 유치와 산업 생태계 조성에 중요한 기틀이 됐다는 평가다.

인재 양성에도 힘을 쏟고 있다. 포항시는 ‘배터리 아카데미’, ‘배터리 특성화대학원’, ‘글로컬 대학’, ‘교육특구 지정’ 등을 통해 현장 실무형 인력부터 고급 연구 인력까지 이차전지 산업의 전문 인재를 체계적으로 양성하고 있다.

한편, 시는 글로벌 시장의 불확실성에 대응하고자 정부 및 국회와 함께 ‘이차전지산업 지원 특별법’ 제정에도 적극 나서며, 기업이 안정적으로 성장할 수 있는 정책 환경 조성에도 노력을 기울이고 있다.

포항시 관계자는 “이번 수상은 포항이 배터리 산업도시로 확고히 자리매김했음을 보여주는 상징적인 결과”라며 “앞으로도 기업 유치, 특화단지 고도화, 인재 양성 등 배터리 산업 생태계 전반의 경쟁력 강화를 위해 총력을 다할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
