이날 행사에는 운곡 돈관 큰스님(학교법인 동국대학교 이사장 겸 건학위원장), 김학홍 경상북도 행정부지사, 송호준 경주시 부시장 등 내외빈과 교직원 약 150명이 참석해 전임 병원장에게 감사를 전하고, 신임 병원장과 병원의 미래 비전을 공유하는 자리를 가졌다.

신혜경 제23대 병원장은 취임사에서 APEC 정상회의를 위한 의료 인프라 고도화, 스마트병원 시스템 도입, 공공병원으로서의 책임 강화를 핵심 전략으로 제시했다. 

특히 ▲APEC 지정 협력병원으로서의 체계적 의료지원 ▲스마트병원 구축을 통한 진료환경 혁신 ▲재정 건전성 확보와 함께 공공적 역할 완수를 통해 “지역의료를 선도하는 병원으로 도약하겠다”는 강한 포부를 밝혔다.

신 병원장은 “모두가 존중받고 자긍심을 느끼는 병원 문화를 만들겠다”며 “환자, 의료진, 직원이 신뢰 속에서 함께 성장할 수 있는 병원, 다시 찾고 싶은 병원을 만들겠다”고 강조했다.

동국대경주병원은 현재 거점지역응급의료센터로 지정돼 지역 내 중증 응급환자 대응의 중심 역할을 수행 중이며, 다가올 APEC 정상회의를 앞두고 응급의료 시스템을 전면 개편하고 있다.

이번 개선작업을 통해 응급실 병상은 20개에서 28개로 확대되며, 진료 공간도 넓어져 보다 쾌적하고 효율적인 환경이 마련된다. 첨단 응급 장비 도입과 함께, 주요 인사 및 외빈의 응급 대응을 위한 VIP 병동도 신설된다.

이러한 응급의료 역량 강화는 APEC 정상회의 기간 중 원활한 의료지원은 물론, 이후에도 경주시민과 지역사회에 향상된 의료서비스 제공으로 이어질 것으로 기대된다.
