【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=한국가스공사(사장 최연혜)는 6월 2일, 서울 중구 LNG비즈니스허브에서 한국서부발전(사장 이정복)과 발전용 개별요금제 천연가스 매매계약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이날 체결식에는 최연혜 가스공사 사장과 이정복 서부발전 사장을 비롯한 양사 관계자 10여 명이 참석했으며, 이번 계약을 통해 서부발전은 2025년부터 2036년까지 연간 약 75만 톤, 총 800만 톤 규모의 천연가스를 구미·김포·공주 천연가스 발전소에 공급받게 된다.

이번 계약은 가스공사가 국내 최고 수준의 가격 경쟁력과 공급 안정성을 바탕으로, 우리나라 대표 발전 공기업을 개별요금제 고객으로 유치한 데 큰 의미가 있다.

가스공사가 2020년부터 도입한 개별요금제는 설비 이용률과 효율을 높여 가스요금 인상 요인을 완화하는 제도로, 이번 계약을 포함해 누적 계약 물량이 연간 약 300만 톤에 이르렀으며, 향후에도 공급을 지속 확대할 방침이다.

이번 계약은 양사 간의 지속적인 협력 관계에서 비롯된 결실로, 가스공사와 서부발전은 과거 에너지 인프라 공동 구축 협업을 통해 약 2,000억 원의 예산을 절감, 2023년 적극행정 우수사례 경진대회에서 국무총리상을 수상한 바 있다.

두 기관은 애초 경북 칠곡 북삼~군위 구간에 각각 천연가스 배관을 건설할 예정이었으나, 중복 구간을 공동 구축하고 설비 규모를 최적화해 중복 투자를 방지했고, 배관 운영도 가스공사가 통합 관리함으로써 유지보수비를 대폭 절감, 가스·전기요금 안정화에 기여했다.

최연혜 가스공사 사장은 “이번 계약은 단순한 에너지 거래를 넘어, 안정적 공급망 구축과 설비 효율성 제고라는 측면에서 매우 중요한 전환점”이라며, “앞으로도 개별요금제 공급을 확대하고, 에너지 공기업 간 협업을 통해 국민께 실질적인 혜택이 돌아가도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Korea Gas Corporation-Korea Western Power Signs Individual Rate Natural Gas Sales Agreement for Power Generation

Korea Gas Corporation (CEO Choi Yeon-hye) announced on June 2 that it signed an individual rate natural gas sales agreement for power generation with Korea Western Power (CEO Lee Jeong-bok) at the LNG Business Hub in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Approximately 10 people from both companies, including Korea Gas Corporation President Choi Yeon-hye and Korea Western Power President Lee Jeong-bok, attended the signing ceremony. Through this contract, Korea Western Power will supply approximately 750,000 tons of natural gas annually (8 million tons in total) to its Gumi, Gimpo, and Gongju natural gas power plants from 2025 to 2036.

The two organizations originally planned to build natural gas pipelines in the Chilgok Buksam-Gunwi section of Gyeongbuk, but they jointly built overlapping sections and optimized the facility size to prevent duplicate investment, and the Korea Gas Corporation also integrated management of the pipeline operation, which significantly reduced maintenance costs and contributed to the stabilization of gas and electricity rates.
