신고를 받은 포항해경은 즉시 경비함정 1008함을 현장으로 출동시켰다. 이동 중 1008함은 어선 A호 선장과 교신을 통해 스크루에 부유물이 감겨 기관이 멈춘 상황을 확인하고, 승선원 7명 전원에게 구명조끼 착용을 지시했다.

현장에 도착한 1008함은 단정을 이용해 어선 A호에 승선한 뒤 선장에 대한 음주측정을 실시했으며, 음주 여부는 이상이 없는 것으로 확인됐다. 승선원 전원 역시 건강상태에 문제가 없는 것을 확인한 후 잠수요원 2명이 입수해 스크루에 감긴 부유물을 제거했다.

문제의 부유물은 약 40kg 상당의 폐자망 그물로 확인됐다. 스크루 정비를 마친 어선 A호는 자력항해가 가능해져 현장에서 조업을 재개한 뒤 다음 날 오후 입항할 예정이다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “먼바다에서 기상이 좋지 않을 경우 스크루에 부유물이 감기는 사고는 전복이나 침수 등 대형사고로 이어질 수 있다”며 “선박 운항 시 전방 주시에 더욱 주의해 줄 것”을 당부했다.
