포항시는 4일 서울 더플라자 호텔에서 열린 시상식에서 이강덕 시장이 이차전지 명품도시경영 부문 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 이번 시상식은 TV조선이 주관하며, 각 분야에서 뛰어난 리더십과 경영 성과를 보여준 최고경영자에게 수여된다.

이 시장은 탄소중립 시대에 맞춰 포항을 이차전지, 수소, 바이오 등 신성장 산업 중심지로 변모시키며 산업구조를 고도화한 성과를 인정받았다.

포항은 2017년 에코프로의 투자를 시작으로 포스코퓨처엠, 에너지머티리얼즈 등 30여 개의 이차전지 관련 기업이 집적된 산업 생태계를 조성했다. 특히, 양극재와 음극재를 동시에 생산하는 국내 유일의 도시로, 양극재 연간 생산량이 21만 톤에 달하며 글로벌 핵심 생산기지로 도약하고 있다.

14조 원 규모의 대규모 투자유치와 더불어, 포항시는 전국 최초로 4년 연속 우수특구로 선정된 배터리 리사이클링 규제자유특구, 양극재 국가첨단전략산업 특화단지, 이차전지 기회발전특구, 이차전지 글로벌 혁신파크 등 4대 국가전략특구를 유치해 지속가능한 산업기반을 다져왔다.

또한 전담부서 신설, 관련 조례 제정, 국제 컨퍼런스 개최 등을 통해 지자체 차원의 적극적인 산업 육성을 펼쳐왔으며, 현재는 ‘이차전지산업 지원 특별법’ 제정을 위해 중앙정부와의 협력을 이어가고 있다.

이 밖에도 포항시는 수소·바이오 산업 확대, 해양관광자원 개발, 마이스 산업 육성 등 산업구조 다변화에도 주력하고 있다. 스페이스워크, 용한서퍼비치 등 레저명소와 함께 포항국제전시컨벤션센터(POEX) 건립을 통해 해양관광도시 및 전시·회의 거점 도시로의 도약도 준비 중이다.

아울러, 세계녹색성장포럼 개최, ‘그린웨이 프로젝트’를 통한 도시숲 조성과 포항운하 복원 등 녹색 인프라 확대 정책을 통해 탄소중립 도시 모델을 제시하고 있다.

포항시는 앞으로도 지속가능한 미래 산업기반을 바탕으로 대한민국을 넘어 글로벌 산업도시로 성장해 나가겠다는 비전을 제시했다.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok was selected as ‘2025 Korea’s Influential CEO’ in recognition of his contribution to fostering future strategic industries.

Pohang City announced on the 4th that Mayor Lee Kang-deok won the Grand Prize in the Secondary Battery Luxury City Management category at an awards ceremony held at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul. This awards ceremony is hosted by TV Chosun and is awarded to CEOs who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and management performance in each field.

The mayor was recognized for his achievements in transforming Pohang into a new growth industry center such as secondary batteries, hydrogen, and bio in line with the carbon neutral era and for advancing the industrial structure.

Starting with EcoPro’s investment in 2017, Pohang has created an industrial ecosystem where approximately 30 secondary battery-related companies, including POSCO FutureM and Energy Materials, are concentrated. In particular, it is the only city in Korea that simultaneously produces cathode and anode materials, and with an annual cathode production volume of 210,000 tons, it is leaping forward as a global core production base.
