【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시의회(의장 김일만)는 지난 12일, 지역 초등학생을 대상으로 지방의회의 기능과 민주적 의사결정 과정을 직접 체험할 수 있는 ‘2025년 청소년 모의의회 체험 교육’을 개최했다.

이번 체험 교육은 (사)의정회(회장 한명희)가 주관하고 포항시, 포항시의회, 포항교육지원청이 공동 후원했으며, 포항 지역 초등학교 5~6학년 학생들을 대상으로 진행됐다. 어린이들이 의회 체험을 통해 민주주의의 기본 가치와 절차를 이해하고, 민주시민으로서의 자질을 함양할 수 있도록 마련됐다.

이날 참여한 학생들은 포항시의회 본회의장에서 실제 의원들이 사용하는 의정 시스템을 활용해 의장 선출, 5분 자유발언, 조례안 상정 및 표결 등 본회의 전반의 의사진행 절차를 체험했다. 또한 박희정 시의원이 ‘회의와 토론’을 주제로 특강을 진행해, 합리적인 의사결정과 토론의 중요성에 대해 강의했다.

김일만 포항시의회 의장은 “이번 체험이 어린이들에게 지방의회의 역할과 기능에 대한 이해를 높이는 좋은 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “민주적 사고와 의사소통 능력을 갖춘 미래의 민주시민으로 성장하는 데 큰 도움이 되기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

포항시의회는 앞으로도 청소년을 대상으로 한 다양한 의회 체험 프로그램을 통해 정치·사회에 대한 이해도를 높이고, 지방자치의 가치를 확산해 나갈 계획이다.

Pohang City Council, ‘Youth Mock Assembly Experience Education’ held… Fostering Democratic Citizenship Awareness for Future Generations

On the 12th, Pohang City Council (Chairman Kim Il-man) held the ‘2025 Youth Mock Assembly Experience Education’ for local elementary school students to directly experience the functions of the local council and the democratic decision-making process.

This experience education was hosted by the (社)의정회 (Chairman Han Myeong-hee) and co-sponsored by Pohang City, Pohang City Council, and Pohang Office of Education, and was conducted for 5th and 6th grade elementary school students in the Pohang area. It was designed to help children understand the basic values and procedures of democracy through the assembly experience and foster their qualities as democratic citizens.

The students who participated on this day experienced the entire assembly proceedings, including the election of the chairman, 5-minute free speech, ordinance proposal presentation, and voting, using the actual assembly system used by assembly members in the Pohang City Council plenary hall. In addition, City Councilor Park Hee-jung gave a special lecture on the topic of ‘Meetings and Discussions’, lecturing on the importance of rational decision-making and discussion.

Pohang City Council Chairman Kim Il-man said, “I hope this experience will be a good opportunity for children to increase their understanding of the role and function of local councils,” and “I hope it will be of great help in growing into future democratic citizens with democratic thinking and communication skills.”

Pohang City Council plans to continue to increase their understanding of politics and society and spread the value of local autonomy through various council experience programs for youth.
