해경에 따르면, 지난 7월 21일 한 시민은 ‘동해해양경찰서’ 명의로 위조된 공문과 함께 무전기 구매 링크가 포함된 문자메시지를 받았다. 문자는 “해경과 2,000만 원 상당의 무전기 구매 계약이 체결돼 있으니 선입금을 하면 수수료를 지급하겠다”는 내용을 담고 있었고, 피해자는 이를 믿고 실제로 입금을 완료했다. 이후 공문의 진위를 확인하기 위해 동해해양경찰서를 직접 방문하면서 사기 피해가 드러났다.

또한 7월 22일에는 ‘포항해양경찰서’ 명의의 위조 공문이 포항 관내 특정 업체 4곳에 유포됐다. 해당 문서에는 “포항해경이 철거공사를 추진 중이며, 무전기 13대(약 1,200만 원 상당)를 선결제하면 추후 수수료 10~20%를 지급하겠다”는 유사한 방식의 사기 내용이 포함돼 있었다.

동해지방해양경찰청은 “해양경찰 명의로 발송되는 모든 공문은 정식 절차와 문서관리 시스템을 통해 이뤄지며, 민간 업체에 선입금이나 수수료 지급을 조건으로 거래를 제안하는 일은 절대 없다”고 강조했다.

또한 “이와 유사한 사례를 접했거나 의심되는 공문을 수신한 경우, 반드시 관할 해양경찰서에 진위 여부를 확인하고 112 또는 해양경찰에 즉시 신고해줄 것”을 당부했다.

동해해경청은 향후 유사 범죄 확산 방지를 위해 지역 내 기업 및 시민 대상 홍보를 강화하고, 수사 기관과 협력해 철저한 대응에 나설 방침이다.

The East Sea Coast Guard plans to strengthen public relations targeting local businesses and citizens and cooperate with investigative agencies to thoroughly respond in order to prevent the spread of similar crimes in the future.
