청림·일월동은 고령화와 인구 유출, 노후 건축물 증가, 철강공단 배후 환경 문제 등으로 주거 여건 개선 필요성이 꾸준히 제기돼 온 지역이다. 포항시는 주민 의견을 반영한 사업 구상을 마련해 높은 경쟁률 속에서 공모에 선정됐다. 전국에서는 포항을 포함한 10개 시군이 최종 선정됐다.

포항시는 이번 사업을 ‘공해 문제 해결, 맑음 충전 프로젝트’로 명명하고 ▲일월청림 건강센터 조성 ▲집수리 동행 사업 ▲친환경 보행환경 개선 ▲일월청림 클린센터 조성 ▲도시재생지원사업 등을 추진한다. 이를 통해 깨끗한 환경에서 건강한 삶을 누릴 수 있는 고령 친화 생활마을을 조성한다는 구상이다.

특히 이번 사업은 주민 참여와 지역기업 협력으로 상생 발전을 도모한다는 점에서 의미가 크다. 아울러 고령자 복지주택, 호국역사문화관, 연오랑세오녀 파크골프장 등 청림·일월동 일대에서 추진 중인 사업과 연계해 시너지 효과를 낼 것으로 기대된다.

포항시 관계자는 “이번 성과는 주민과 행정, 지역 국회의원이 힘을 모은 결과”라며 “주민 주도형 도시재생을 통해 지속가능한 기반을 마련하고, 지역기업과 협력해 공동체와 산업이 함께 성장하는 새로운 모델을 만들겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 이번 사업은 2026년 본격 착수해 2029년까지 4년간 단계적으로 진행될 예정이다.

The goal is to create a senior-friendly community where residents can enjoy healthy lives in a clean environment.

This project is particularly significant because it promotes mutual growth through resident participation and cooperation with local businesses. Furthermore, it is expected to generate synergy effects by linking with other projects currently underway in the Cheongnim and Ilwol-dong areas, such as senior welfare housing, the National Defense History and Culture Center, and the Yeonorang Seonyeo Park Golf Course.

A Pohang City official stated, "This achievement is the result of the combined efforts of residents, administration, and local National Assembly members. Through resident-led urban regeneration, we will establish a sustainable foundation and collaborate with local businesses to create a new model where communities and industries thrive together."

Meanwhile, this project is scheduled to begin in earnest in 2026 and be carried out in stages over four years until 2029.
