‘청년친화헌정대상’은 사단법인 청년과미래가 주관하며, 정책·입법·소통 분야를 종합적으로 평가해 청년 친화적 환경 조성에 기여한 기관에 수여된다. 포항시는 청년참여기구 운영, 지원사업 추진, 청년 행사 개최 등에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

시는 2023년 청년 전담부서인 ‘일자리청년과’를 신설해 청년정책의 통합성과 전문성을 강화했다. 이를 기반으로 청년정책 고도화, 자립 지원, 교류 활성화 등 전 주기에 걸친 다양한 사업을 추진해 왔다.

특히 청년정책학교, 포항청춘센터, 청년창업플랫폼, 일자리 공감 페이 지원 사업 등이 청년들의 호응을 얻으며 실질적 성과를 거뒀다. 청년 창업가들이 참여하는 ‘플플마켓’도 지역에 정착해 청년 의견이 정책에 반영되는 선순환 구조가 마련됐다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “이번 수상은 행정만의 성과가 아니라 청년과 시민이 함께 이룬 결과”라며 “앞으로도 청년이 포항에서 꿈꾸고 도전할 수 있는 기반을 강화하기 위해 적극 뒷받침하겠다”고 말했다.

포항시는 이번 수상을 계기로 청년 일자리 창출, 주거·문화 지원, 정책 참여 확대 등 청년 친화 정책을 한층 더 속도감 있게 추진해 ‘청년이 중심이 되는 도시’로 도약한다는 방침이다.
