환호공원은 북구 환여·두호·장량동 일원 114만㎡ 부지에 조성된다. 이미 남측 54만㎡에는 스페이스워크와 포항시립미술관이 들어서 시민과 관광객의 발길이 이어지고 있으며, 이번 준공으로 북측 60만㎡에 식물원과 잔디광장 등 복합 문화·휴식 공간이 추가된다. 이로써 포항 유일의 100만㎡ 이상 대형 공원이 탄생하게 된다.

특히 대형 잔디광장 ‘환호뜰’과 보행교·순환데크 설치로 접근성과 편의성이 크게 개선됐으며, 환호공원 식물원은 길이 130m 아치형 온실에 바오밥나무, 맹그로브 등 희귀 열대·아열대 식물을 전시해 교육적 가치가 높다. 야간에는 식물원과 순환데크, 바닥분수에 경관조명이 더해져 스페이스워크와 함께 포항의 새로운 야간 관광 명소로 기대된다.
