【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항 환호근린공원 준공식이 오는 30일환호근린공원 내 휴미원에서 열린다고 포항시가 22일 밝혔다.

시에 따르면 이번 준공식에는 이강덕 포항시장을 비롯 지역 국회의원, 도의원, 시의원들과 유관단체 및 공사 관계자, 지역 주민 등이 참석할 예정이다. 

오후 4시부터 진행되는 식전행사에서는 대형 스크린을 통한 홍보영상 상영과 ‘길놀이’ 퍼포먼스로 흥을 돋운다. 이어 마돈나킴, 신재혁, 양혁 등 지역가수들의 공연이 펼쳐진다.

공식행사는 오후 4시 30분부터 시작된다. 담당과장의 경과보고 후 포항시장 기념사와 의장 축사가 진행된다. 이어 준공 기념 퍼포먼스와 기념식수로 환호근린공원의 새 출발을 알린다. 이어 5시부터 포항 출신 트롯가수 전유진이 축하 콘서트를 꾸민다.

포항시 관계자는 “환호근린공원은 도심 속에서 자연을 체험하고 여가를 즐길 수 있는 포항의새로운 랜드마크가 될 것”이라며 “준공식을 계기로 시민과 함께하는 열린 공간으로 발전시켜 나가겠다”고 말했다.

환호근린공원은 시행사 ㈜아키션과 포항시가 함께 만들어낸 포항 최대 민간공원조성업으로 136만㎡ (구 41만평) 축구장 약 190개 크기다.

특히 방치되고 격리된 녹색섬과 같았던 지역을 도시로부터 열린 ‘개방형 공원’으로 재탄생시켰으며, 도시와 사람, 자연을 모두 연결하는 친환경적 ‘커뮤니티 공원’을 컨셉으로 조성했다.

환호근린공원은 해가 뜨는 도시 포항을 형상화한 친환경 건축물인 온실을 비롯하여 시민들이 다양한 경험을 제공할 세 가지 테마로 구성됐다. 자연의 숨결을 그대로 느낄 수 있는 생태 체험 공간인 '천혜원', 문화가 여가가 결합된 복합 휴식 공간인 '휴미원', 시민들의 교류와 참여형 여가 활동을 위한 공간인 '미담원' 등 도시에서 누리는 자연문화 복합공간으로 탄생된다.

주요 시설로는 산수와 태양의 이미지를 담아 다섯 개 테마구역으로 꾸민 온실 ‘환호 용추원’이 들어서며, 150여 종의 수종과 폭포, 스카이워크, 석가산 등 다채로운 볼거리를 제공한다. 공원 진입부에는 개방적 공간을 확보한 진입광장이 조성돼 방문객 동선을 분산시키고 환호뜰로 이어지는 시인성을 강화했다.

광장과 숲을 잇는 하늘연못은 계류와 연못을 따라 친수식물과 곤충·조류 서식지가 어우러진 생태적 경관을 연출한다. 녹음이 우거진 숲에는 스마트도서관과 커뮤니티하우스를 갖춘 책읽는 숲이 마련돼 독서와 휴식, 만남의 공간을 제공한다. 공원 중심부의 환호뜰은 넓은 잔디마당과 바닥분수, 숲테라스를 갖춘 열린 공간으로, 일상 휴식부터 대규모 행사까지 소화 가능한 랜드마크로 설계됐다.

내측 구릉지에는 공연과 시민참여 프로그램이 가능한 다목적 문화정원이 자리잡아 문화 인프라 역할을 한다. 총연장 540m 규모의 순환데크 ‘하늘마루’는 조망형·산책형 데크로드로 연결돼 숲 훼손을 최소화하면서도 야간에는 경관조명으로 랜드마크 기능을 한다. 구릉지를 활용한 바람의 언덕은 그라스류 식물과 하늘연못을 연계한 경관을, 향기언덕은 다양한 방향식물과 흡밀식물을 통해 사계절 향기를 느낄 수 있다. 계절화원은 장미원과 수국원으로 계절별 화려한 경관을 제공하며, 숲속 놀이터는 숲으로 둘러싸인 안전한 모험형 놀이공간으로 조성됐다.
