축제는 11일 오전 10시부터 오후 6시까지, 12일 오전 10시부터 오후 5시까지 진행되며, 11일 오후 2시 공식 개막식을 통해 막을 올린다.

포항시는 반려동물 산업 발전과 성숙한 반려문화 정착을 위해 지난 2014년부터 매년 축제를 열어왔으며, 올해는 더 많은 반려인의 참여를 위해 행사 기간을 이틀로 확대했다.

행사장에서는 훈련견 어질리티 시범, 반려견 올림픽, 펫 피트니스 체험, 무료 동물 등록 등 다양한 체험 프로그램이 마련된다. 또한 응급처치 강의, 홈케어 미용 클래스, 훈련사 토크쇼 등을 통해 실생활에 유용한 양육 정보를 공유하는 시간도 제공된다.

특히 청년 펫 창업자들이 참여하는 수제 간식 부스, 펫 용품 홍보·판매 부스, 펫보험·헬스케어 산업박람회 등도 함께 열려 지역 펫산업 활성화에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “반려동물을 키우는 시민이 늘어남에 따라 생활 속 반려문화 정착이 중요하다”며 “이번 축제가 반려인과 시민이 함께 즐기는 화합의 장이자 지역 펫산업 발전의 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
