이번 포럼은 지난 6월 열린 3도 접경 주민 화합행사(경북 영주시·충북 단양군·강원특별자치도 영월군)의 연장선으로, 경상북도와 영주시가 공동 주최하고 경북연구원이 주관했다.

이날 행사에는 이상수 경상북도 지방시대정책국장, 유정근 영주부시장, 김병기 영주시의장, 임병하 경북도의원을 비롯해 단양군·영월군 관계자, 지역 주민, 전문가 등 100여 명이 참석해 경계 지역의 상생 발전과 초광역 협력 방안을 논의했다.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province successfully held the 'Three Provinces Border Area Development Forum' at Dongyang University on October 23rd.

The second presentation, Professor Jeong Seong-hun of Kangwon National University, addressed “Directions for Joint Development of the Three Provinces’ Border Region.” Focusing on the strategy for developing the Sobaekchi U-Park, he proposed measures to promote economic cooperation and tourism resource linkages between Yeongju, Danyang, and Yeongwol, establish joint infrastructure, and revitalize cultural and economic exchanges.

The following general discussion was moderated by Professor Lee Do-seon of Dongyang University, and included experts including Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council Member Lim Byeong-ha, Professor Ryu Jong-hyeon of Kangwon National University, Professor Lee Gyu-sik of Kyungpook National University, Senior Research Fellow Choi Yong-hwan of the Chungbuk Research Institute, and Research Fellow Hong Gil-jong of the G-Sustainable Strategy Research Institute.

The discussion analyzed the structural problems of the border region and presented diverse ideas, including strengthening cooperation among the three provinces and promoting mutually beneficial development through the joint use of regional resources.

Lee Sang-soo, Director of the Local Government Policy Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, stated, "Border regions should no longer be the end of administrative affairs, but rather a hub for connecting regions and creating new growth opportunities."
