【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시는 27일 시청 중회의실에서 다음 달 3일부터 5일까지 열리는 ‘국제 배터리 엑스포 2025 포항(International Battery Expo 2025 Pohang)’의 성공적인 개최를 위한 최종 보고회를 열었다.

장상길 포항시 부시장 주재로 진행된 이날 보고회는 경북도 미래첨단산업과장, 포항시 일자리경제국장, 배터리첨단산업과장, 경북테크노파크(TP), 포항테크노파크, 포항금속소재산업진흥원(POMIA), 경북 포항 이차전지산업 기업협의회 등 산·학·연·관 관계자 20여 명이 참석해 행사 전반을 최종 점검했다.

‘국제 배터리 엑스포 2025 포항’은 경북 최초의 이차전지 산업 전문 전시·박람회로, “Beyond Batteries, Powering Tomorrow(배터리를 넘어, 미래를 이끌다)”를 주제로 열린다. 이번 행사에는 국내외 30여 개 기업과 연구기관, 대학, 정부기관이 참여해 배터리 산업의 기술·정책·투자 분야를 아우르는 교류의 장을 마련한다.

포항시는 2020년부터 매년 개최해 온 ‘배터리 선도도시 포항 국제컨퍼런스’의 성과를 토대로 이번 엑스포를 기술 교류·투자 상담·국제 협력이 결합된 종합 산업 플랫폼으로 발전시켰다.

이날 보고회에서는 ▲기업전시관 ▲국제컨퍼런스 ▲투자상담회 ▲기업 네트워킹 ▲배터리 산업 현장 투어 등 핵심 프로그램의 최종안을 확정하고, 행사 동선·안전관리·통역·의전 등 세부 운영계획을 면밀히 점검했다.

특히 기업전시관은 포항의 대표 앵커기업인 에코프로와 포스코퓨처엠이 중심이 되어, 양극재·음극재 등 핵심 소재 기술력과 생산 역량을 선보일 예정이다. 또한 지역의 중견·중소기업과 스타트업도 참여해 소재·장비·공정혁신 분야의 기술 성과를 공유하고 국내외 기업 간 협업 네트워크를 강화한다.

국제컨퍼런스에는 한국·독일·노르딕 4개국(핀란드·스웨덴·노르웨이·아이슬란드) 등 글로벌 배터리 강국의 주요 연사들이 참석해, 국가별 세션을 통해 배터리 재활용·소재 기술혁신·에너지 전환 등 핵심 의제를 다루며 최신 산업 트렌드와 정책 방향을 공유한다.

장상길 부시장은 “이번 엑스포는 포항이 대한민국을 넘어 세계 배터리 산업의 중심으로 도약하는 계기가 될 것”이라며 “국가첨단전략산업 특화단지로 지정된 포항의 위상에 걸맞은 행사가 되도록 철저히 준비하겠다”고 강조했다.

한편 포항시는 이번 엑스포를 통해 이차전지 소재 특화단지의 위상을 강화하고, 국내외 산학연 협력 네트워크를 확장해 미래 배터리 산업의 글로벌 거점 도시로 자리매김할 계획이다. 또한 포항을 중심으로 한 산업 전주기 생태계와 글로벌 기술 협력 모델을 제시함으로써 대한민국 배터리 산업의 지속가능한 성장 방향을 제시하는 전환점이 될 것으로 기대된다.

The meeting provided a final review of the overall event.

The "International Battery Expo 2025 Pohang" is Gyeongbuk's first exhibition and trade fair dedicated to the secondary battery industry, held under the theme of "Beyond Batteries, Powering Tomorrow." This event will bring together approximately 30 domestic and international companies, research institutes, universities, and government agencies, providing a forum for exchange across technology, policy, and investment in the battery industry.

Building on the success of the "Battery Leading City Pohang International Conference," held annually since 2020, Pohang City has developed this expo into a comprehensive industrial platform combining technology exchange, investment consultation, and international cooperation.

At the briefing session, the final draft of key programs, including the corporate exhibition hall, international conference, investment consultation, corporate networking, and battery industry site tours, was finalized. Detailed operational plans, including event routes, safety management, interpretation, and protocol, were also thoroughly reviewed.

The corporate exhibition hall, particularly Pohang's leading anchor companies EcoPro and POSCO FutureM, will showcase their core material technologies and production capabilities, including cathode and anode materials. Local SMEs and startups will also participate, sharing technological achievements in materials, equipment, and process innovation and strengthening collaborative networks between domestic and international companies.

The international conference will feature key speakers from global battery powerhouses such as Korea, Germany, and the four Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland). Through country-specific sessions, they will address key topics such as battery recycling, material technology innovation, and energy transition, sharing the latest industry trends and policy directions.

Vice Mayor Jang Sang-gil emphasized, "This expo will serve as an opportunity for Pohang to leap beyond Korea and become a global battery industry hub. We will thoroughly prepare for an event befitting Pohang's status as a national high-tech strategic industrial complex."

Meanwhile, Pohang City plans to use this expo to strengthen its position as a specialized secondary battery materials complex and expand its domestic and international network of industry-academia-research collaborations, establishing itself as a global hub for the future battery industry. Furthermore, by presenting a Pohang-centered industrial lifecycle ecosystem and a model for global technological cooperation, the city is expected to serve as a turning point, establishing a path for sustainable growth for the Korean battery industry.
