이번 행사는 APEC 개최 지역 자격으로 경상북도가 주최한 공식 비즈니스 만찬으로, 글로벌 기업 리더들과 미래산업 협력의 문을 여는 교류의 장이 됐다.

이날 만찬에는 사이먼 칸(Simon Kahn) 구글 아시아태평양 CMO, 토오루 오오타니(Toru Otani) 히타치코리아 대표, 정지은 코딧 대표, APEC CEO Summit 연사 르노 드 바르부아(Renaud de Barbuat) GS1 대표 등 세계 각국의 기업인들이 참석했다.

또한 박일준 대한상공회의소 부회장, 제임스 김(James Kim) 주한상공회의소 회장, 정계성 김앤장 대표변호사, 마이클 케이시(Michael Casey) Advanced AI Society 의장, 김영식 국가과학기술위원회 이사장 등 각계 주요 인사들도 함께했다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 영어로 진행한 환영사에서 “경북에서 세계로, 인류를 위한 혁신”을 주제로, 신라의 포용과 혁신 정신을 바탕으로 새로운 번영의 시대를 함께 열자고 제안했다.

이 지사는 “경북은 한국전쟁의 상흔을 이겨내고 포스코와 같은 세계적 철강기업을 탄생시킨 땅이며, 휴대폰과 반도체 산업의 뿌리이기도 하다”며 지역의 산업적 잠재력을 강조했다.

행사 사회를 맡은 안현모 아나운서는 이철우 지사를 “경주 APEC의 성공적 개최를 위해 암 투병도 이겨낸 리더”로 소개하며, 경북도의 강한 의지를 전했다.

만찬은 양성원 연세대 교수의 오케스트라 연주와 마술사 이은결의 마술공연으로 풍성하게 꾸며졌다. 음식은 선재 스님이 경북 지역 식재료를 활용한 전통 사찰음식으로 준비해, 1,700년 한식의 정통성과 깊이를 세계 각국의 인사들에게 선보였다. 참석자들은 한국의 멋과 맛이 어우러진 만찬에 호평을 아끼지 않았다.

경상북도는 이번 APEC 개최를 계기로 SK, AWS, Meta 등 글로벌 디지털·AI 기업과 협력해 지역 데이터·AI 산업 생태계를 육성할 계획이며, 캐나다 퀘벡주와도 AI·에너지 분야 협력을 논의한 바 있다.

이철우 지사는 APEC 기간 동안 경주에 머물며 크리스탈리나 게오르기에바 IMF 총재, 르엉끄엉 베트남 국가주석 등과 연쇄 회동을 이어가며 광폭 행보를 펼치고 있다.

이 지사는 “지붕 없는 박물관 경주의 문화적 숨결을 느끼며 세계 각국의 리더들이 새로운 영감을 얻길 바란다”며 “APEC을 계기로 경북이 세계와 함께 성장하는 글로벌 혁신의 중심이 되겠다”고 말했다.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province hosted the 'Global CEO Welcome Dinner' at Hwangryongwon in Gyeongju on October 30th, inviting approximately 150 guests, including CEOs of major global companies and high-ranking officials from international organizations.

This event, an official business dinner hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do as the APEC host region, served as a platform for networking with global business leaders and opening the door to future industry cooperation.

The dinner was attended by business leaders from around the world, including Simon Kahn, CMO of Google Asia Pacific; Toru Otani, CEO of Hitachi Korea; Ji-eun Jeong, CEO of Cordit; and Renaud de Barbuat, CEO of GS1, who was a speaker at the APEC CEO Summit.

Also in attendance were prominent figures from various fields, including Vice Chairman Park Il-joon of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman James Kim of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Managing Attorney Jeong Gye-seong of Kim & Chang, Chairman Michael Casey of the Advanced AI Society, and Chairman Kim Young-sik of the National Science and Technology Commission.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo delivered a welcoming address in English. Under the theme, "From Gyeongsangbuk-do to the World, Innovation for Humanity," he proposed that we usher in a new era of prosperity based on the Silla spirit of inclusiveness and innovation.

Governor Lee emphasized the region's industrial potential, saying, "Gyeongsangbuk-do is the land that overcame the scars of the Korean War and gave birth to global steel companies like POSCO, and is also the root of the mobile phone and semiconductor industries."

Ann Hyun-mo, the host of the event, introduced Governor Lee Cheol-woo as "a leader who overcame cancer to successfully host the Gyeongju APEC," and conveyed the province's strong commitment.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young introduced Gyeongju, the capital of the millennium-old Silla Kingdom, as the ancient Silicon Valley and today a hub for cutting-edge industries such as SMR. Kim Seok-ki, chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee, declared, "We will reopen a new Silk Road of free trade and cooperation in Gyeongju."

The banquet featured a dazzling orchestral performance by Professor Yang Seong-won of Yonsei University and a magic show by magician Lee Eun-gyeol. The food, prepared by the monk Seonjae, featured traditional temple cuisine using local ingredients from Gyeongbuk Province, showcasing the authenticity and depth of 1,700-year-old Korean cuisine to the international audience. Attendees praised the banquet, which blended Korean style and flavor.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province plans to leverage this APEC summit to foster a regional data and AI industry ecosystem by collaborating with global digital and AI companies such as SK, AWS, and Meta. The province has also discussed cooperation in the AI ​​and energy sectors with the Canadian province of Quebec.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo is staying in Gyeongju during the APEC period, holding a series of meetings with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, among others.

Governor Lee stated, "I hope that leaders from around the world will gain new inspiration by experiencing the cultural spirit of Gyeongju, the roofless museum." He added, "With APEC as an opportunity, Gyeongbuk will become a global hub of innovation, growing together with the world."
