【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도는 지난 10월 30일 경주 더케이호텔에서 ‘베트남 정상과의 만남의 날’ 행사를 개최하고, 새마을세계화사업 20주년을 기념했다. 이번 행사는 2005년 경상북도가 베트남 타이응우옌성 룽반마을에 최초로 새마을시범마을을 조성한 것을 계기로 마련됐다.

이날 행사에는 APEC 정상회의 참석차 방한한 르엉 끄엉 베트남 국가주석과 박성만 경상북도의회의장, 김석기 국회 외교통일위원장, 박현국 봉화군수 등 도내 새마을 관련 단체장들이 참석했다. 

또한 봉화군 소속 베트남 계절근로자 150여 명, 위덕대학교 재학 중인 베트남 유학생 40여 명, 화산이씨 종친회 회원 등 총 300여 명이 자리를 함께하며 행사의 의미를 더했다.

주요 행사 내용은 식전 공연, 이철우 경상북도지사 환영사, 르엉 끄엉 국가주석 격려사, 기념품 교환, ‘경상북도-베트남 동행의 길’ 영상 시청, 우호·협력 퍼포먼스, 만찬 순으로 진행됐다. 특히 기념품 교환에서는 이철우 도지사와 르엉 끄엉 국가주석이 성덕대왕 신종인 에밀레종과 동선 청동북 조각품을 각각 교환하며 새마을을 통해 미래에도 동행하겠다는 뜻을 함께했다.

경상북도는 2005년 타이응우옌성을 시작으로 호찌민(2006년), 박닌성(2023년)과 차례로 자매결연을 맺고, 베트남 내 15개 새마을시범마을을 조성했다. 

마을안길 정비, 생활환경 개선, 농업 및 디지털 기술 보급을 통해 현지 주민 소득 증대와 발전에 실질적 변화를 이끌어왔다. 또한 2016년에는 호찌민대학교에 새마을연구소를 설립해 현지 인재 양성을 통해 자생적 새마을운동 확산을 지원했다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “경북과 베트남은 800년 전 베트남 리 왕조 후손이 봉화에 정착하면서 맺은 인연이 오늘날까지 이어지고 있다”며, “앞으로도 새마을정신을 바탕으로 다양한 협력사업을 추진해 상생 발전을 이루고 지속 가능한 미래를 함께 열어가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 경상북도는 봉화군 봉성면 일대 국내 유일의 베트남 리 왕조 유적지를 기반으로 ‘K-베트남 밸리’를 조성해 한국과 베트남의 산업·문화 협력 상징 공간을 구축할 계획이다.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province Hosts "Vietnam Leaders' Meeting Day" to Mark APEC Summit

On October 30th, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province held the "Vietnam Leaders' Meeting Day" event at The K Hotel in Gyeongju to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Saemaul Globalization Project. This event was organized in 2005 to commemorate the establishment of the first Saemaul pilot village in Long Van, Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam.

The event was attended by Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, who was visiting Korea for the APEC Summit; Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council Speaker Park Seong-man; National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee Chairman Kim Seok-gi; Bonghwa County Mayor Park Hyun-guk; and other Saemaul-related organizations in the province.

The event was also attended by approximately 300 people, including approximately 150 Vietnamese seasonal workers from Bonghwa County, 40 Vietnamese students studying at Uideok University, and members of the Hwasan Lee Clan Association, adding to the significance of the event.

The main events included a pre-ceremony performance, welcoming remarks by Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo, encouraging remarks by President Luong Cuong, a souvenir exchange, a viewing of the "Gyeongsangbuk-do-Vietnam Road of Companionship" video, a friendship and cooperation performance, and a banquet. In particular, Governor Lee Cheol-woo and President Luong Cuong exchanged the Emile Bell, a sacred bell of King Seongdeok, and a bronze Dong Son drum sculpture, expressing their commitment to further partnership through the Saemaul Movement.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province established sisterhood ties with Thai Nguyen Province in 2005, followed by Ho Chi Minh City in 2006 and Bac Ninh Province in 2023. The province has since established 15 Saemaul model villages in Vietnam.

By improving village roads, improving living environments, and disseminating agricultural and digital technologies, it has brought about tangible changes in local residents' income and development. In 2016, the Saemaul Research Institute was established at Ho Chi Minh University to foster local talent and support the spread of the indigenous Saemaul Movement.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, "The bond between Gyeongsangbuk-do and Vietnam, forged 800 years ago when descendants of the Vietnamese Ly Dynasty settled in Bonghwa, continues to this day." He added, "We will continue to pursue various cooperative projects based on the Saemaul spirit, achieving mutually beneficial development and opening up a sustainable future together."

Meanwhile, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to develop the "K-Vietnam Valley" at the only Vietnamese Ly Dynasty historical site in Korea in Bongseong-myeon, Bonghwa County, creating a symbolic space for industrial and cultural cooperation between Korea and Vietnam.
