【브레이크뉴스 경주】이성현 기자=크리스탈리나 게오르기에바 국제통화기금(IMF) 총재가 2025년 APEC 정상회의를 맞아 경주를 방문해 주요 문화 관광지를 둘러봤다.

게오르기에바 총재는 10월 31일 APEC 정상회의 본회의 개막 1세션 ‘디지털 협력을 통한 지역 도전 과제 대응 및 공동 번영 방안’에서 특별 기조연설을 하기 위해 경주를 찾았다.

문화 순방은 불국사에서 시작됐다. 이철우 경상북도지사가 총재를 맞이한 가운데 청운교와 백운교를 배경으로 기념촬영을 진행하고, 불국사 대웅전으로 이동했다. 총재는 다보탑의 화려한 아름다움과 석가탑의 균형미가 조화된 대웅전을 바라보며 감탄을 금치 못했다.

이어 경주민속공예촌을 방문한 게오르기에바 총재는 도예 명장이 시연하는 토기 제작 과정을 관람했다. 총재는 토기 성형부터 소성까지 이어지는 신라 전통 토기 제작 과정을 흥미롭게 지켜본 뒤 완성된 전통 토기 작품을 감상했다.

마지막 일정으로 K-Tech 전시관을 찾은 총재는 이차전지, 에너지, 조선 등 핵심 산업부터 화장품, 웹툰 등 대한민국 산업을 총망라한 전시를 둘러봤다. 선박 운항 체험과 로봇 기술을 활용한 만화가 이현세 작가 풍의 초상 그리기 체험 등 다양한 체험활동을 통해 한국 기술 발전상을 확인했다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “게오르기에바 총재가 대한민국과 경상북도에 큰 관심을 두고 경주의 역사와 문화를 돌아보는 시간을 가져 매우 뜻깊게 생각한다”며, “경주가 APEC 정상회의 개최지로 선정된 것은 신라 천년고도의 우수한 문화자원 덕분이며, 이번 순방을 통해 경주가 세계 최고의 관광도시로 발돋움할 것”이라고 말했다.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva visited Gyeongju to tour key cultural and tourist attractions ahead of the 2025 APEC Summit.

IMF Managing Director Georgieva arrived in Gyeongju on October 31st to deliver a special keynote speech at the opening session of the APEC Summit, "Addressing Regional Challenges and Prosperity through Digital Cooperation."

The cultural tour began at Bulguksa Temple. North Gyeongsang Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo greeted the IMF Managing Director, and they posed for a commemorative photo with Cheongungyo and Baekungyo Bridges in the background. They then proceeded to the Daeungjeon Hall of Bulguksa Temple. Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, "I am deeply honored that President Georgieva has taken such a keen interest in Korea and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and has taken the time to reflect on the history and culture of Gyeongju." He added, "Gyeongju's selection as the host city for the APEC Summit is due to the outstanding cultural resources of the millennium-old capital of Silla. This visit will help Gyeongju emerge as a world-class tourist destination."
