【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=경북교육청이 내년 ‘꿈키움 작은 학교’로 5개 농산어촌 학교를 선정하며 교육 경쟁력 강화에 나섰다.

경북교육청(교육감 임종식)은 7일, ‘2025년 꿈키움 작은 학교’ 인증 대상 학교로 영주 봉현초, 장수초, 성주 수륜초, 경산 용성중, 고령 쌍림중 등 5곳을 선정했다고 밝혔다.

‘꿈키움 작은 학교’는 농산어촌 학교의 교육 질을 높이고, 지역과 함께 성장하는 학교 모델 확산을 위해 2020년부터 운영 중인 경북교육청 자체 인증 제도다. 

교육청은 작은 학교 살리기 사업에 참여 중인 학교를 대상으로 학생 수 증가 추이, 교육과정 운영, 구성원 참여, 지역 연계 프로그램, 외부 재원 확보 등 다양한 요소를 종합 평가해 매년 5개 학교를 선정해 왔다. 올해까지 누적 30곳이 ‘꿈키움 작은 학교’로 인증받았다.

이번에 선정된 학교들은 지역 자원을 활용한 체험 중심 교육과 학생 맞춤형 교육과정 운영에서 높은 점수를 받았다.

봉현초는 지역사회와 연계한 진로교육과 프로젝트 학습을 강화해 공동체 인성교육 모델을 안착시키고 있다. 장수초는 김장체험, 물놀이 축제, 도시문화 체험 등 학교 밖으로 확장한 배움을 통해 ‘마을과 함께하는 교육’을 실천 중이다. 수륜초는 IB형 수업과 중학교 연계 공동교육과정 운영으로 ‘작지만 강한 강소학교’의 면모를 보이고 있다.

중학교 부문에서는 용성중이 예술, 체육, 진로, 복지 등 다양한 분야에서 특색사업을 추진해 자유학구제 운영의 성과를 인정받았다. 쌍림중도 작가 인턴십, 지역 기관 탐방, VR 체험 등 특화 프로그램을 꾸준히 개발해 학생들의 진로 설계에 힘을 보태고 있다.

임종식 교육감은 “작은 학교가 지역공동체의 중심이 될 수 있도록 특색 있는 교육과정을 지속 확산해나가겠다”며, “학생과 학부모 모두 만족하는 작은 학교 모델을 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education has selected five rural schools as "Dream Nurturing Small Schools" next year, aiming to strengthen educational competitiveness.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 7th that it has selected five schools—Bonghyeon Elementary School and Jangsu Elementary School in Yeongju, Suryun Elementary School in Seongju, Yongseong Middle School in Gyeongsan, and Ssangnim Middle School in Goryeong—as candidates for the "2025 Dream Nurturing Small School" certification.

"Dream Nurturing Small Schools" is a self-certification program implemented by the Gyeongbuk Office of Education since 2020. This program aims to improve the quality of education in rural schools and promote a model of school growth that fosters collaboration with the local community.

The Office of Education annually selects five schools participating in the Small School Revitalization Project based on a comprehensive evaluation of various factors, including student growth trends, curriculum implementation, member engagement, regional partnership programs, and external funding. As of this year, a total of 30 schools have been certified as "Dream Nurturing Small Schools."

The schools selected this time received high marks for their experiential education utilizing local resources and their customized curriculum.

Bonghyeon Elementary School is establishing a community-based character education model by strengthening career education and project-based learning in partnership with the local community. Jangsu Elementary School is implementing "education with the village" through learning experiences that extend beyond the school walls, such as kimchi-making, water festivals, and urban cultural experiences. Suryun Elementary School is demonstrating its "small but strong" character through IB classes and a joint middle school curriculum.

In the middle school category, Yongseong Middle School was recognized for its successful implementation of the Free School District System by implementing unique projects in various fields, including arts, physical education, career guidance, and welfare. Ssangnim Middle School is also consistently developing specialized programs, such as artist internships, visits to local institutions, and VR experiences, to support students' career planning.

Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, "We will continue to expand our unique curriculum so that small schools can become the hub of their local communities. We will create a small school model that satisfies both students and parents."
