【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시는 10일 흥해읍 대련리 산152 일원에서 ‘경상권역 임산물 물류터미널’ 준공식을 열고 임산물 유통 혁신의 새로운 거점 시설이 본격 가동된다고 밝혔다.

준공식에는 이강덕 포항시장, 김일만 포항시의회 의장, 박은식 산림청 산림산업정책국장, 손병웅 포항시산림조합장, 경북도 내 산림조합장·임업단체 대표, 시민 등 500여 명이 참석해 준공을 축하했다.

이번 사업은 인구 감소와 고령화로 인한 임업 생산력 저하, 비효율적인 임산물 유통 구조를 개선하기 위해 2022년 산림청 공모사업에 선정돼 추진됐다. 총사업비 40억 원(국비 20억, 도비 6억, 시비 14억)이 투입됐으며, 산림조합이 기부채납한 5,000㎡ 부지에 2024년 12월 착공해 1년여 만에 산지유통센터(연면적 964㎡)를 완공했다.

경상권역 임산물 물류터미널은 무주에 이어 전국 두 번째 사례로, 국내 최초로 로봇 기반 AI 자동화 시스템을 도입한 것이 특징이다. 선별·살균·포장 등 전 과정을 자동화한 시스템을 갖춰 임산물 신선도 유지, 품질 균일화, 물류 효율성 향상 등 전반적인 유통 경쟁력을 크게 높일 것으로 기대된다.

센터에는 집하장, 저온·냉동 저장고, 자동선별·자동포장 설비 등이 구축돼 지역 청정 임산물의 체계적 유통과 안정적 공급 기반이 마련됐다.

포항시는 내년에 착공 예정인 ‘임산물 가공센터’와 연계해 신선 임산물의 짧은 유통 기한 문제를 보완하고, 산딸기 퓌레·송이 슬라이스·포장 산나물 등 가공 상품 개발을 통해 고부가가치를 창출할 계획이다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “물류터미널 준공으로 지역 임산물의 경쟁력을 크게 강화할 수 있게 됐다”며 “앞으로 가공센터와의 연계를 통해 국내 유통망 확대는 물론 해외 수출 기반 마련에도 힘쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.

Pohang City Completes Construction of 'Gyeongsang Region Forest Products Logistics Terminal', Introducing Nation's First Robot-Based AI Automation Facility

Pohang City held a completion ceremony for the 'Gyeongsang Region Forest Products Logistics Terminal' on the 10th at 152 San, Daeryun-ri, Heunghae-eup, announcing the full operation of this new hub for forest product distribution innovation.

Approximately 500 people attended the ceremony, including Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok, Pohang City Council Chairman Kim Il-man, Korea Forest Service Forest Industry Policy Bureau Director Park Eun-sik, Pohang City Forestry Cooperative President Son Byeong-ung, North Gyeongsang Province forestry cooperative leaders and forestry organizations representatives, and citizens.

This project was selected for the 2022 Korea Forest Service public offering to address the decline in forestry productivity caused by population decline and aging, as well as improve the inefficient forest product distribution structure. A total project cost of 4 billion won (2 billion won from the national government, 600 million won from the provincial government, and 1.4 billion won from the city) was invested. Construction began in December 2024 on a 5,000㎡ site donated by the Forestry Cooperative, and the 964㎡ forestry distribution center was completed in just over a year.

The Gyeongsang region forestry products logistics terminal is the second such terminal in the nation, following Muju, and is notable for being the first in Korea to introduce a robot-based AI automation system. This system, which automates all processes from sorting, sterilization, and packaging, is expected to significantly enhance overall distribution competitiveness by maintaining forest product freshness, ensuring consistent quality, and enhancing logistics efficiency.

The center features a collection center, cold storage, and automated sorting and packaging equipment, establishing a foundation for the systematic distribution and stable supply of local, clean forestry products.

Pohang City plans to collaborate with the Forest Products Processing Center, scheduled to begin construction next year, to address the short shelf life of fresh forest products and create high added value through the development of processed products such as raspberry puree, mushroom slices, and packaged wild vegetables.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, "The completion of the logistics terminal will significantly enhance the competitiveness of local forest products. Going forward, through collaboration with the processing center, we will strive to expand the domestic distribution network and establish a foundation for overseas exports."
