대구광역시와 광주광역시는 11월 18일 오후 광주시청에서 열린 ‘2025년 달빛동맹발전위원회’에서 ‘대한민국 AI 3대 강국 선도’ 비전을 발표하고, 양 도시가 함께 추진할 초광역 협력의 방향성을 제시했다. 이날 행사에서는 협력 퍼포먼스를 통해 AI 시대를 견인할 ‘초광역협력 2.0’의 본격 출범을 알렸다.

이번 회의에서는 총 11개의 신규 공동협력 과제가 확정됐다. 핵심은 대구와 광주를 대한민국 AI 3대 강국 도약을 이끌 AX(Advanced eXperience) 거점도시로 육성하는 것이다.

두 도시는 앞서 예비타당성조사 면제를 받은 대구의 ‘지역거점 AX 혁신기술 개발사업’과 광주의 ‘AX 실증밸리 조성사업’을 연계해 시너지를 극대화할 계획이다.

대구는 비수도권 최대 규모의 SW집적단지와 영남권 제조업 벨트를 기반으로 하고, 광주는 전국 최고 수준의 AI 특화 데이터센터와 도심 실증 인프라를 갖추고 있다는 점에서 협력 효과가 클 것으로 기대된다.

양 도시는 또한 인공지능 핵심 인재 양성, 미래 모빌리티 산업 육성 등 신산업 분야에서도 공동 행보를 이어가기로 합의했다. 이와 더불어 ▲2차 공공기관 이전 공동 대응 ▲한국기독선교유산의 유네스코 세계유산 공동 등재 추진 등 경제·사회·문화 전반을 포괄하는 11개 협력과제를 추진하기로 했다.

‘달빛동맹’은 2013년 협약 체결 이후 대구경북통합신공항·광주군공항 이전 특별법 동시 통과(2023년), 달빛철도 특별법 제정(2024년) 등 굵직한 사업을 현실화하며 대표적인 상생협력 모델로 평가받고 있다. 이번 신규 과제 역시 기존 SOC 중심 협력을 미래 신산업 분야로 확장하는 의미를 갖는다.

김정기 대구광역시장 권한대행 행정부시장은 “달빛동맹은 단순한 동서화합을 넘어 대한민국의 미래를 함께 설계하는 혁신 공동체로 성장했다”며 “두 도시가 함께 AI와 미래산업을 선도해 수도권에 버금가는 새로운 성장축을 만들고 국가균형성장의 역사를 새로 쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.
