이번 행사는 울진금강송산지농업시스템의 국제적 위상을 알리고 금강송이 지닌 역사·문화·생태적 가치를 지속적으로 보존하고 계승하기 위한 지역 공동체 의지의 결집을 목표로 진행됐다. 행사에는 손병복 울진군수를 비롯해 울진군의회 의원, 관내 기관단체장, 금강송추진위원, 지역 주민 등 약 300여 명이 참석했다.
행사는 1부 울진금강송 수호제와 2부 FAO 등재 기념식으로 나누어 진행됐다. 1부에서는 식전 공연 후 금강송의 보전과 안녕을 기원하는 전통 의식인 수호제 제향이 엄숙하게 진행됐다.
2부 기념식에서는 등재 추진 과정 발표와 기념 영상 상영, 감사패 전달식 등이 이어졌으며, 군수 인사말과 내빈 축사를 통해 금강송의 세계적 가치와 그 의미를 공유하는 시간이 마련됐다.
울진군은 앞으로 금강송 산지농업의 지속 가능한 보전·관리 체계를 강화하고 지역 주민 참여 확대를 위한 다양한 정책과 지원 사업을 추진할 계획이다.
손병복 군수는 “울진 금강송은 천년 숲이 빚어낸 대한민국의 대표 산림 자산이자 농업·문화가 어우러진 세계적 가치의 유산”이라며 “이번 등재 기념식을 계기로 금강송의 가치를 널리 알리고 보전 의지를 군민과 함께 더욱 확고히 하겠다”고 말했다.
