【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=행복북구문화재단이 오는 12월 6일 어울아트센터 함지홀에서 신작 연극 ‘바람꽃’을 선보인다. 공연은 오후 2시와 6시 두 차례에 걸쳐 진행된다.

‘바람꽃’은 한국문화예술회관연합회가 주관하는 2025 문예회관 특성화 지원사업 신작제작형에 최종 선정된 작품이다.

이 사업은 지역의 문화자원을 살려 독창적인 공연 콘텐츠를 발굴하고, 문예회관의 경쟁력 제고를 목적으로 하고 있다. 올해 전국 69개 문예회관에서 79개 프로그램이 신청했으며, 1차 심사를 통과한 17개 중 ‘바람꽃’을 포함해 10개 작품이 최종 선정됐다. 

대구·경북 지역에서는 ‘바람꽃’이 유일하게 이름을 올렸다. 이번 선정으로 ‘바람꽃’은 총 9천만 원의 국비를 지원받게 됐다.

‘바람꽃’은 대구 북구 출신 소설가 이태원의 소설 ‘초야’를 현대적으로 각색한 창작극이다. 척박한 환경 속에서도 꺾이지 않고 주체적으로 존재를 피워내는 주인공 초향의 이야기를 중심으로 한 작품이다. 

설화, 곽수민, 유이수, 오택완 등 지역에서 활발히 활동하는 배우들이 출연하며, 전통악기와 현대악기가 어우러진 음악과 다채로운 영상미로 무대의 완성도를 높였다. 공연 쇼케이스에서는 심사위원으로부터 높은 평가를 받으며 작품성을 인정받았다.

연출은 지난해 유망예술가 발굴 프로젝트에 선정된 김현규 연출가가 맡았다. 음악, 무대, 출연진 등 제작진은 지역 예술가들과 긴밀하게 협업해 대구만의 정서와 색을 무대에 담아냈다. 초향 역을 맡은 설화 배우는 ‘왕의 나라’, ‘투란도트’ 등에서 활약했으며, 연출가로도 활동 중이다. 성애 역의 곽수민 배우도 ‘고스트베이커리’, ‘셜록 홈즈’ 등 다양한 작품에서 관객을 만났다.

박정숙 행복북구문화재단 대표이사는 “이번 선정은 지역 예술인들과의 협업으로 만들어낸 값진 성과”라며, “‘바람꽃’을 통해 북구 출신 이태원 작가를 널리 알리는 한편, 지역 문예회관의 문화 브랜드화에도 힘을 보태겠다”고 밝혔다.

The Happy Bukgu Cultural Foundation will present its new play, "Wind Flower," at the Hamji Hall of the Eoul Arts Center on December 6th. Performances will be held twice, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

"Wind Flower" was selected as a finalist for the 2025 Arts Center Specialization Support Project, a new production category, hosted by the Korea Arts Center Association.

This project aims to discover original performance content by leveraging local cultural resources and enhance the competitiveness of arts centers. This year, 79 programs from 69 arts centers nationwide applied, and of the 17 that passed the first round of screening, 10 works, including "Wind Flower," were selected.

"Wind Flower" is the only play from the Daegu/Gyeongbuk region to be included. With this selection, "Wind Flower" will receive a total of 90 million won in government funding.

"Wind Flower" is a contemporary adaptation of the novel "Choya" by Lee Tae-won, a novelist from Daegu's Buk-gu district. It centers on the story of Chohyang, a protagonist who perseveres despite harsh circumstances and thrives on her own initiative.

The production features a cast of local actors, including Seolhwa, Kwak Soo-min, Yoo Yi-soo, and Oh Taek-wan. The music, which blends traditional and modern instruments, and the diverse visuals enhance the stage's quality. The performance showcase received high praise from the judges, acclaiming its artistic quality.

Director Kim Hyun-gyu, who was selected for last year's Promising Artists Development Project, directed the production. The production team, including the music, stage, and cast, collaborated closely with local artists to capture the unique spirit and color of Daegu. Seolhwa, who plays Chohyang, has previously appeared in "The King's Country" and "Turandot" and is currently working as a director. Kwak Soo-min, who plays Seong-ae, has also appeared in diverse productions, including "Ghost Bakery" and "Sherlock Holmes."

Park Jeong-suk, CEO of the Happy Buk-gu Cultural Foundation, said, “This selection is a valuable achievement created through collaboration with local artists,” and added, “Through ‘Wind Flower,’ we will widely publicize the Itaewon writer from Buk-gu, while also contributing to the cultural branding of the local arts center.”
