【브레이크뉴스 경산】이성현 기자=한국한의약진흥원(원장 직무대행 송수진)은 지난 11월 17일부터 21일까지 ‘세계보건기구(WHO) 서태평양지역 한의약 역량 강화 연수단 방문연수 프로그램’을 성공적으로 개최했다고 28일 밝혔다.

이번 연수는 WHO 서태평양지역사무처 주최, 한국한의약진흥원 주관으로 진행됐으며, 서태평양 지역 내 전통·보완·통합의학 제품의 품질관리 역량 강화와 국가별 전통의약 규제 체계 구축을 지원하기 위해 마련됐다.

연수에는 캄보디아, 라오스, 몽골, 베트남 등 4개국 보건부 및 전통의약 관련 규제기관 전문가와 WHO 라오스·필리핀·캄보디아 국가사무소 관계자들이 참여했다. 프로그램은 진흥원 본원, 대구품질인증센터, 한약제제생산센터, 서울 분원 등에서 진행됐다.

참가자들은 한약자원 관리, 연구개발, 제제 생산, 품질검사 등 한국한의약진흥원의 주요 사업과 한의약 제도·정책 체계를 소개받고 각국의 전통의약 관리체계와 비교·논의하는 시간을 가졌다.

특히 품질인증센터에서 진행된 연수에서는 한약재 품질검사 시험시설, 장비, 시료 전처리 및 측정 과정 등을 직접 체험하며 품질 기준 설정과 과학적 검증 절차의 중요성을 이해했다. 연수 후에는 품질 안전관리와 이상사례 감시 체계에 대해 논의하며 국가별 현황과 개선 방향을 공유했다.

또한 한약제제생산센터 방문에서는 원료 입고부터 제조, 품질검사, 포장까지의 GMP 전 공정을 살펴보고 제조 품질관리 전반과 문서관리 체계 등을 확인했다. 연수단은 국내 교육·진료·산업 기반을 이해하기 위한 유관기관 방문도 경험했다.

연수단은 이번 프로그램이 이론 중심을 넘어 실제 업무 적용이 가능한 내용으로 구성돼 각국의 전통의약 품질관리 체계 구축과 제도 개선에 직접적 도움이 될 것이라고 평가하며, 향후 심화 연수 참여 의사도 밝혔다.

송수진 원장대행은 “이번 연수는 서태평양 지역 국가들이 공통적으로 직면한 품질관리 과제를 함께 고민하고 해결 방향을 모색하는 중요한 출발점이었다”며 “진흥원은 WHO 협력센터로서 국제사회에 신뢰받는 품질·안전관리 체계를 확산하고, 역내 협력을 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

The National Institute of Korean Medicine (NIKOM) Successfully Hosts WHO Western Pacific Region Capacity Building Training Program

The National Institute of Korean Medicine (NIKOM) (Acting President Song Soo-jin) announced on the 28th that it successfully hosted the "World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Region Capacity Building Training Program." Participants were introduced to the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine's (NIOM) key projects, including herbal medicine resource management, research and development, formulation production, and quality inspection, as well as the Korean medicine system and policy framework. They then compared and discussed the traditional medicine management systems of various countries.

In particular, the training session at the Quality Certification Center provided hands-on experience with the herbal medicine quality inspection testing facilities, equipment, sample preparation, and measurement processes, thereby gaining an understanding of the importance of establishing quality standards and scientific verification procedures. Following the training, participants discussed quality safety management and adverse event monitoring systems, sharing the current status and directions for improvement in each country.

Furthermore, during a visit to the Herbal Medicine Production Center, they observed the entire GMP process, from raw material receipt to manufacturing, quality inspection, and packaging. They also examined the overall manufacturing quality control and document management system. The participants also visited related organizations to understand Korea's educational, clinical, and industrial infrastructure.

The participants evaluated the program's focus on practical application beyond theory, stating that it will directly contribute to the establishment and improvement of traditional medicine quality management systems in each country. They also expressed their intention to participate in further in-depth training in the future.

Acting Director Song Soo-jin said, “This training was an important starting point for countries in the Western Pacific region to think together about the common quality management challenges they face and seek solutions,” and added, “As a WHO Collaborating Center, the KHIDI will continue to expand a quality and safety management system that is trusted by the international community and strengthen cooperation within the region.”
