대구 동구청은 지난 16일 대구시 산격청사 대회의실에서 신세계사이먼 프리미엄 아울렛 조성을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 협약에는 대구시와 동구청, 대구도시개발공사, 신세계사이먼, 신세계, 미국 사이먼프라퍼티그룹 등 6개 기관과 기업이 참여했다.

협약에 따라 안심뉴타운 내 유통상업용지 약 4만 1,000㎡ 부지에 국내외 유명 브랜드가 입점하는 프리미엄 아울렛이 조성된다. 신세계사이먼 프리미엄 아울렛은 2028년 말 개장을 목표로 하고 있다.

아울렛이 문을 열면 지역 인재를 중심으로 1,000명 이상의 일자리 창출이 예상된다. 유통, 관광, 서비스 산업 전반에도 긍정적인 경제 효과가 확산될 전망이다. 특히 그동안 개발이 더뎠던 안심뉴타운 일대에 활기를 불어넣고, 지역 이미지 개선과 정주 여건 향상에도 도움이 될 것으로 보인다.

동구청은 사업의 원활한 추진을 위해 인허가 등 행정 절차 지원과 관계기관 협력, 현장 중심 행정 지원에 나설 계획이다.

윤석준 동구청장은 “신세계사이먼 유치는 안심뉴타운과 동구가 한 단계 도약하는 계기가 될 것”이라며 “지역 경제에 활력을 불어넣고, 동구를 대표하는 랜드마크로 자리매김할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
