이번 사업에는 시 예산 4,000만 원이 투입됐다. 도서관은 내부 좌석 부족 문제를 해소하고, 한동안 사용되지 않던 야외 공간을 주민을 위한 개방형 휴식공간으로 재탄생시키는 데 목적을 뒀다.

새롭게 조성된 ‘야외 독서힐링공간’은 자연 친화적 디자인을 내세웠다. 중앙에는 조화와 식물, 조형물이 어우러져 도심 속에서도 자연의 여유를 느낄 수 있도록 꾸며졌다.

실내 좌석 부족으로 불편을 겪었던 이용자들에게 실질적인 대안이 마련됐다는 점이 이번 사업의 가장 큰 성과로 꼽힌다. 아울러 오랜 시간 머물 수 있는 쾌적한 공간이 갖춰지면서 도서관 이용률과 방문 만족도도 높아질 것으로 기대된다.

주민 제안에서 출발한 이번 사업이 주민 참여형 공공서비스의 모범 사례로 자리매김하고, 쾌적한 야외 독서공간이 도서관의 새로운 랜드마크로 떠오를지 주목된다.

태전도서관 관계자는 “주민들의 직접적인 제안으로 실내 좌석 부족 문제를 해소하는 동시에, 그동안 방치됐던 공간에 생명력을 불어넣게 되어 뜻깊다”며 “앞으로도 주민들이 쾌적하게 머물며 힐링할 수 있도록 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
