【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈)은 29일 경주 본사에서 경주시와 처분시설 인근 대형 산불에 공동 대응하기 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

이번 협약을 통해 공단과 경주시는 △산불 예방 및 대응 관련 정보의 상호 공유 △산불 예방을 위한 교육·캠페인 등 공동 추진 △산불 발생 시 신속한 상황 전파 및 대응 협력 △인력·장비 등 자원의 상호 지원 및 공동 활용 △산불 대응 훈련의 공동 기획 및 참여 등에 협력하기로 했다.

협약에 따라 양 기관은 처분시설과 인근 지역사회의 재난 안전성을 높이고, 체계적인 산불 대응과 지속 가능한 산림 관리 기반을 조성하기 위해 긴밀한 협력을 이어갈 방침이다.

한편 한국원자력환경공단은 처분시설 부지 내에 지난 2021년부터 스마트 산불감시탑을 설치해 24시간 산불 발생 여부를 상시 모니터링하고 있다. 최근에는 산불 방호설비인 수관수막타워를 추가로 설치하는 등 산불 예방과 대응 역량을 지속적으로 강화하고 있다.

조성돈 한국원자력환경공단 이사장은 “처분시설 산불 대응 체계를 고도화해 국민의 생명과 재산을 보호하고, 처분시설과 주변 지역의 안전 확보 및 지역사회 보호를 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KOREA) and Gyeongju City Establish Joint Response System for Large-Scale Wildfires near Disposal Facilities

KOREA (Chairman Cho Sung-don) and Gyeongju City (Mayor Joo Nak-young) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at their headquarters in Gyeongju on the 29th to jointly respond to large-scale wildfires near the disposal facility.

Through this agreement, the KOREA and Gyeongju City agreed to: 1) mutually share information related to wildfire prevention and response; 2) jointly promote education and campaigns for wildfire prevention; 3) cooperate in rapid situational awareness and response in the event of a wildfire; 4) mutually support and share resources such as personnel and equipment; and 5) jointly plan and participate in wildfire response training.

Under the agreement, the two organizations plan to continue close cooperation to enhance disaster safety in the disposal facility and surrounding communities, and to establish a foundation for systematic wildfire response and sustainable forest management.

Meanwhile, the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KOREA) has been monitoring the site of the disposal facility 24/7 by installing a smart forest fire surveillance tower since 2021. Recently, the agency has been continuously strengthening its forest fire prevention and response capabilities, including the installation of additional water canopy towers as a forest fire protection device.

KOREA Chairman Cho Sung-don stated, "We will do our utmost to enhance our forest fire response system at disposal facilities to protect the lives and property of the public, ensure the safety of the disposal facility and surrounding areas, and protect the local community."
