이번 협약은 대구시와 HD현대로보틱스가 협력해 지역경제의 핵심 성장 동력으로 주목받는 휴머노이드 로봇 산업의 저변을 확대하고, 관련 산업 생태계를 체계적으로 조성하기 위한 첫걸음이라는 점에서 의미를 갖는다.

양 기관은 대구 로봇 산업의 질적 도약을 위해 ‘로봇 국가첨단전략산업 특화단지’ 지정에 역량을 집중하고, 대구를 대한민국 로봇 산업의 전초기지로 육성한다는 공동의 비전을 제시했다.

대구시는 HD현대로보틱스 대구 본사 공장의 제조 혁신을 위한 ‘AI 팩토리 선도프로젝트’를 추진하고, 로봇 실증 인프라 확충과 관련한 국비 예산 확보 등 정책적 지원을 강화할 방침이다.

HD현대로보틱스는 글로벌 로봇 시장 수요 증가에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 현재 연간 8,000대 수준인 생산 능력을 2만 대 규모로 2.5배 확대할 계획이다. 이를 위해 제조 공정 전반에 AI 기술을 본격 도입하고, 자동화율을 기존 50%에서 80%까지 끌어올릴 예정이다.

특히 ‘로봇이 로봇을 만든다’는 목표 아래 초격차 AI 로봇 제조 공장을 구현해 생산 공정 혁신을 추진하는 한편, 배터리 제조라인과 조선소 자동화 솔루션 등 급증하는 실증 시험 수요에 대응하기 위한 공간 확보도 병행한다.

대구시는 HD현대로보틱스의 생산 효율성 제고를 위해 정책적 지원을 아끼지 않을 계획이다. 공장 내 솔루션 및 내구성 테스트 공간을 외부로 이전·확대할 수 있도록 국비 예산을 유치하고, 이에 따른 인프라 구축을 적극 지원한다. 테스트 공간 이전으로 확보된 여유 공간은 전량 제조 생산라인으로 전환해 생산성을 대폭 향상시킬 전망이다.

이번 협약을 통해 양 기관은 휴머노이드 로봇 산업 육성을 위한 협력을 강화하는 동시에, 지역 전문 인력 채용과 로봇 부품 공급망 강화를 통해 지역 상생 발전에도 기여할 계획이다.
