대구시는 김정기 대구광역시장 권한대행을 단장으로 한 대표단이 1월 14일부터 18일까지 4박 5일 일정으로 베트남 다낭시와 호치민시를 방문해 관광, 경제, 교육, ICT, ODA 등 다양한 분야에서 실질적인 협력 확대 방안을 논의할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

다낭과 호치민은 모두 대구시와 자매우호도시로, 특히 호치민에는 대구시 해외사무소가 설치돼 있어 양 도시 간 교류의 거점 역할을 하고 있다. 이번 방문은 최근 광역도시로 행정체제가 개편된 다낭시와의 업무협약(MOU) 체결을 계기로 협력 관계를 한층 공고히 하기 위한 것이다.

대구시는 먼저 다낭시 관광안내센터 내에 대구시 전용 홍보 공간을 조성하고, 해양·휴양 관광도시 다낭과 ‘메디시티 대구’의 첨단 의료서비스 역량을 연계한 의료관광 및 문화관광 협력 모델을 추진한다. 이를 통해 양 도시 간 관광 교류와 방문객 확대를 도모한다는 구상이다.

베트남 최대 경제도시인 호치민시에서는 호치민시 인민위원회 고위급 면담을 통해 경제 협력과 기업 교류 확대 방안을 논의하는 한편, 홍방국제대학교에서 대구 유학생 유치 설명회를 개최한다. 설명회에서는 경북대, 계명대, 영남대 등 대구권 주요 대학의 교육 경쟁력과 글로벌 프로그램을 소개하고, 베트남 학생들과의 질의응답을 통해 유학 수요를 적극 발굴할 계획이다.

현재 대구지역 12개 대학에는 7,431명의 외국인 유학생이 재학 중으로, 대구시는 이번 설명회를 계기로 우수한 베트남 인재 유치를 확대해 한·베 양국 간 인적 교류를 강화할 방침이다.

대구시는 이번 방문을 통해 다낭과 호치민을 중심으로 베트남 주요 도시와의 교류를 확대하고, 도시 외교를 지역 기업의 해외 진출과 관광, 인재 유치로 연결하는 선순환 구조를 구축해 나갈 계획이다.

Daegu Metropolitan City will be making official visits to Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City to elevate cooperation with Vietnam, its third largest export market.

Daegu City announced that a delegation led by Acting Mayor Kim Jung-ki will visit Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam for five days and four nights from January 14th to 18th to discuss ways to expand practical cooperation in various areas, including tourism, economy, education, ICT, and official development assistance (ODA).

Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City are both sister cities of Daegu City, and Daegu City's overseas office in Ho Chi Minh City serves as a hub for exchanges between the two cities. This visit aims to further solidify the cooperative relationship, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Da Nang, which recently underwent administrative reorganization into a metropolitan city.

Daegu City will first establish a dedicated promotional space within the Da Nang Tourist Information Center and promote a collaborative medical and cultural tourism model that links the advanced medical services of "Medical City Daegu" with the maritime and resort tourism city of Da Nang. This initiative aims to increase tourism exchange and visitor numbers between the two cities.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest economic city, high-level meetings with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will be held to discuss ways to expand economic cooperation and business exchanges. Hong Bang International University will also host a briefing session to attract international students from Daegu. The briefing session will showcase the educational competitiveness and global programs of major universities in the Daegu area, including Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, and Yeungnam University. The program will also actively explore student demand through a Q&A session with Vietnamese students.

Currently, 7,431 international students are enrolled at 12 universities in the Daegu area. Daegu City plans to use this briefing session as an opportunity to attract talented Vietnamese students and strengthen human exchanges between Korea and Vietnam.

Through this visit, Daegu plans to expand exchanges with major Vietnamese cities, focusing on Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, and establish a virtuous cycle that connects city diplomacy with overseas expansion of local companies, tourism, and talent attraction.

Acting Daegu Mayor Kim Jeong-gi stated, "Vietnam is Daegu's third largest export market and a fast-growing key partner." He added, "This visit will serve as an opportunity to flesh out joint projects and diversify our export structure, currently focused on China and the United States, to Southeast Asia, further strengthening Daegu's trade, exchange, and cooperation network."
