【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코가 지난 1월 22일부터 오는 2월 11일까지 약 3주간 포항·광양 지역 초등학교에서 직원 자녀 200여 명을 대상으로 ‘포스코 키즈 잉글리시 캠프’를 운영하고 있다고 1일 밝혔다.

올해로 3년 차를 맞은 ‘포스코 키즈 잉글리시 캠프’는 방학 기간을 활용해 초등학생 눈높이에 맞춘 영어 중심 프로그램을 제공함으로써, 자녀들의 체계적인 영어 학습을 지원하고 학부모의 일·가정 양립을 돕기 위해 마련됐다. 특히 외국어 전문 교육기관인 ‘캐롯 글로벌’과 협업해 프로그램을 구성하며 교육 전문성과 완성도를 높였다.

캠프에서는 영어 수업 외에도 과학 실험, 체육 활동, 노래 부르기, 미술 체험, 쿠킹 클래스 등 저학년 학생들의 흥미를 유도할 수 있는 다양한 예체능 활동을 함께 운영해 참여도를 높였다.

또한 CEFR(공통유럽언어참조기준) 등급 기반 교보재를 활용해 학생 개개인의 영어 수준에 맞춘 맞춤형 강의를 제공하고, 실전 중심의 말하기 연습과 함께 다양한 국가의 문화적 맥락 속에서 언어적·비언어적 의사소통 역량을 기를 수 있는 콘텐츠를 구성했다.

캠프에 참여한 한 학생은 “새로 만난 친구들과 함께 영어 공부를 하는 것이 즐겁고 재미있다”며 “나중에 다른 나라 친구들과 영어로 이야기하고 싶다”고 말했다.

프로그램을 기획한 포스코 관계자는 “이번 키즈 잉글리시 캠프는 가족·출산 친화 문화 조성과 일·가정 양립 지원의 일환으로, 직원들의 양육 부담을 덜고 자녀들이 영어 학습과 다양한 활동을 통해 의미 있는 경험을 할 수 있도록 준비했다”고 밝혔다.

한편 포스코는 육아몰입기간, 육아기 재택근무, 지역별 어린이집 운영 등 생애주기에 맞춘 25개의 가족·출산 친화 제도를 운영하고 있으며, 앞으로도 직원 의견을 반영한 제도 도입을 통해 가족 친화적인 기업 문화를 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

Meanwhile, POSCO operates 25 family-friendly and childbirth-friendly programs tailored to each life cycle, including childcare immersion periods, telecommuting during childcare, and regional daycare centers.
