【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=재단법인 송암장학회가 최근 10년간 지역 중·고등학생을 대상으로 총 1억2천만 원에 달하는 장학금을 지급한 것으로 나타났다.

올해도 1,500만 원 규모의 장학금이 지역 6개 학교 학생들에게 전달되며, 지역 인재 육성에 대한 지원이 계속되고 있다.

송암장학회(이사장 최근영)는 최근 10년 동안 10차례에 걸쳐 지역 청소년들에게 장학금을 지급했다고 밝혔다. 

올해 장학금은 영진고등학교를 비롯해 복현중, 성광중, 대구일중, 침산중, 청구중 등 6개교 학생들에게 모두 1,500만 원이 전달됐다.

영진고등학교에서는 지난 3일 장학금 수여식이 열렸다. 이날 행사는 전교생이 참석한 가운데, 장학회 소개, 장학증서 전달, 이사장 격려사, 장학생 대표 소감 발표 순으로 진행됐다. 영진고 장학생으로는 1학년 윤건우, 정태웅, 2학년 이민제, 최정원, 3학년 정석원 학생이 선발됐다.

송암장학회는 영진고 외에도 북구와 동구에 위치한 5개 중학교에 장학금을 전달해 지원 대상을 확대했다. 중·고등학생을 아우르는 장학 시스템을 통해 다양한 환경의 학생들에게 공평한 교육 기회를 제공하겠다는 취지다.

1997년 설립된 송암장학회는 송헌 최달곤 박사가 학술 진흥과 인재 양성을 통해 국가 발전에 기여하고자 만든 공익법인이다. 설립 이후 학업 성취뿐 아니라 인성과 성장 가능성도 함께 고려해 지속적으로 지역 인재를 발굴·지원해 왔다.

최근영 이사장은 장학금 수여식에서 “오늘 지급된 장학금은 여러분의 성과에 대한 보상이 아니라, 여러분의 가능성을 믿고 보내는 신뢰의 표현”이라며 “포기하지 않는 태도를 갖는 것이 더 큰 성장으로 이어질 것”이라고 격려했다.

영진고 문일도 교감은 “송암장학회의 장학사업은 학생들이 스스로 성장 방향을 고민하는 계기가 된다”며 “앞으로도 학생들의 학업과 인성 성장을 위해 꾸준히 협력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
