【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=선린대학교는 지난 13일 오후 교내 믿음관 2층 세미나실에서 제8대 곽진환 총장 퇴임식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 퇴임식에는 학교법인 인산교육재단 문준수 이사장과 공원식 상임이사를 비롯해 교직원과 내·외빈 등 80여 명이 참석해 곽 총장의 노고를 기렸다. 행사는 기념영상 상영을 시작으로 감사패 수여, 꽃다발 증정, 학생 특송, 퇴임사 순으로 진행됐다.

곽진환 총장은 2023년 3월 20일 제8대 총장으로 취임해 3년간 대학을 이끌며 임기를 마쳤다. 재임 기간 동안 약 80억 원의 재정을 투입해 교육시설과 캠퍼스 환경을 개선하는 등 학생 중심의 쾌적한 교육 환경 조성에 힘썼다.

또 대학기관평가인증을 획득하고 대학혁신지원사업을 추진했으며, 2025년 RISE 사업 4개 분야에 선정되는 등 대학 경쟁력 강화에 기여했다.

곽 총장은 퇴임사에서 “이 자리에 함께해 주신 내·외빈과 선린 가족 여러분께 감사드린다”며 “선린대학교가 설립자 김종원 박사의 뜻을 이어 ‘선린’이라는 이름처럼 지역의 선한 이웃으로 기억되길 바라며, 앞으로도 지역사회를 위한 훌륭한 인재 양성에 힘을 보태겠다”고 말했다.

한편 곽 총장은 대구 계성고등학교와 서울대학교 약학대를 졸업하고 서울대학교 대학원에서 약학 석사와 박사 학위를 받았다. 이후 한동대학교에서 학생처장과 교무처장, 학사부총장 등을 역임했으며 선린대학교 제8대 총장을 지냈다.

Sunlin University President Kwak Jin-hwan Retires… “Will Contribute to Nurturing Talent for the Local Community”

Sunlin University announced that it held a retirement ceremony for its 8th President, Kwak Jin-hwan, on the afternoon of the 13th at the seminar room on the second floor of the Faith Hall on campus.

Approximately 80 people attended the ceremony, including Moon Jun-su, Chairman of the Insan Education Foundation, and Gong Won-sik, Executive Director, as well as faculty, staff, and distinguished guests, to pay tribute to President Kwak's dedication. The event proceeded in the following order: screening of a commemorative video, presentation of a plaque of appreciation, presentation of flower bouquets, a special performance by students, and a farewell address.

President Kwak Jin-hwan took office as the 8th President on March 20, 2023, and has completed his three-year term leading the university. During his tenure, he invested approximately 8 billion won in funding to improve educational facilities and the campus environment, striving to create a pleasant, student-centered educational environment.

In addition, he contributed to strengthening the university's competitiveness by obtaining institutional accreditation, promoting the University Innovation Support Project, and being selected for four fields of the 2025 RISE Project.

In his farewell address, President Kwak said, “I thank the distinguished guests and the Sunlin family who are here with us today.” He added, “I hope that Sunlin University will carry on the legacy of its founder, Dr. Kim Jong-won, and be remembered as a good neighbor to the community, just as its name ‘Sunlin’ suggests. I will continue to contribute to nurturing outstanding talent for the local community.”

Meanwhile, President Kwak graduated from Daegu Gyesung High School and the College of Pharmacy at Seoul National University, and received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Pharmacy from the graduate school of Seoul National University. Subsequently, he served as Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Handong University, and served as the 8th President of Sunlin University.
