포항에 위치한 오중기 후보 선거사무소에서 열린 개소식에는 정청래 당대표를 비롯한 중앙당 지도부와 지역 출마자, 지지자 등 500여 명이 넘는 인파가 몰렸다.

당 지도부 총집결… “경북 변화의 적임자는 오중기”

이날 행사에는 민주당의 핵심 인사가 대거 참석해 눈길을 끌었다. 정청래 당대표를 필두로 조승래 사무총장, 임미애 경북도당위원장, 이인영 국회의원(상임선대위원장), 한민수 당대표 비서실장, 박해철 대변인 등 당 지도부와 주요 국회의원들이 참석해 힘을 보탰다.

특히 정청래 대표는 축사를 통해 “‘경북을 일으킬 사람’이라는 슬로건에 깊은 감동을 받았다”며“대구와 마찬가지로 경북 다해드림센터장을 직접 맡아, 오중기 후보가 요청하는 사항은 무엇이든 전폭적으로 지원하겠다”고 약속했다.

영상 축사를 보낸 김부겸 대구시장 후보 역시“오중기는 중앙정부와 국회를 설득해 경북의 몫을 당당히 가져올 배짱과 실력을 갖춘 일꾼”이라며 도민들의 지지를 호소했다.

오 후보는 이날 자신의 선거캠프 명칭을 ‘오뚝이 캠프’로 명명하고 오픈채팅방 공개 퍼포먼스를 진행했다. 특히 오 후보는 경북 지역에 출마한 기초단체장 및 광역·기초의원 후보들을 직접 일일이 소개하며, 지역주의 타파를 위한 후보 간의 강력한 결속력을 대내외에 과시했다.

공동선대위원장을 맡은 김현숙 대구대 교수는 “30년 일당 독점을 깨고 중앙정부와 직접 소통할 실력 있는 도지사가 필요하다”며“이재명 대통령의 국정철학을 이해하고 경북의 심장을 다시 뛰게 할 적임자는 오중기뿐”이라고 강조했다.

마이크를 잡은 오중기 후보는“경북이라는 불모지에서 6번 낙선하면서도 긴 세월 민주당의 간판을 지켜왔다”고 소회와 포부를 밝히며“노무현 대통령의 길을 따라 지역주의라는 거대한 벽에 균열을 만들어가고 있다”고 말했다.

이어 그는 “경북의 해묵은 숙제들을 이재명 대통령과 손잡고 확실히 해결하겠다”며 “‘오중기가 하니까 정말 되네!’라는 탄성이 경북 전역에 울려 퍼지도록 승리하겠다”고 자신감을 내비쳤다.

개소식을 마친 오중기 후보는 정청래 당대표와 함께 포항 죽도시장을 찾아 상인들과 인사를 나누는 등 민생 현장 행보를 이어갔다.

Oh Joong-ki, the Democratic Party’s candidate for North Gyeongsang Governor, held an opening ceremony for his election office, officially kicking off his campaign.

Over 500 people, including Party Leader Chung Cheong-rae and other central party leaders, local candidates, and supporters, flocked to the opening ceremony held at Candidate Oh’s election office in Pohang.

Party Leadership Gathered… “Oh Joong-ki is the Right Person for Change in North Gyeongsang”

The event drew attention with the large attendance of key figures from the Democratic Party. Party leaders and key lawmakers, led by Party Chairman Chung Cheong-rae, attended to lend their support, including Secretary General Cho Seung-rae, North Gyeongsang Provincial Party Committee Chairperson Im Mi-ae, National Assembly Member Lee In-young (Standing Campaign Committee Chairperson), Party Chairman's Chief of Staff Han Min-soo, and Spokesperson Park Hae-cheol.

In particular, Chairman Chung Cheong-rae stated in his congratulatory remarks, “I was deeply moved by the slogan ‘The Person Who Will Revitalize North Gyeongsang Province.’” He promised, “Just as in Daegu, I will personally serve as the Director of the North Gyeongsang Dahae Dream Center and provide full support for whatever requests Candidate Oh Joong-ki makes.”

Daegu Mayoral Candidate Kim Boo-kyum, who sent a video message, also appealed for the support of the provincial residents, saying, “Oh Joong-ki is a dedicated worker with the guts and ability to persuade the central government and the National Assembly to confidently secure North Gyeongsang Province’s fair share.”

On this day, Candidate Oh named his election camp the ‘Otukki Camp’ and held a public performance in his open chat room. In particular, Candidate Oh personally introduced each of the candidates running for heads of local governments and provincial and local council members in the Gyeongbuk region, demonstrating to both domestic and international audiences the strong solidarity among the candidates aimed at eradicating regionalism.

Kim Hyun-sook, a professor at Daegu University serving as co-chair of the campaign committee, emphasized, “We need a competent governor who can break the 30-year one-party monopoly and communicate directly with the central government,” adding, “Oh Joong-ki is the only right person who understands President Lee Jae-myung’s governing philosophy and will make the heart of Gyeongbuk beat again.”

Taking the microphone, Candidate Oh shared his reflections and aspirations, stating, “I have guarded the banner of the Democratic Party for a long time, even while losing six elections in the barren land of Gyeongbuk.” He further remarked, “Following the path of President Roh Moo-hyun, I am creating cracks in the massive wall of regionalism.”

He continued, “I will definitely resolve Gyeongbuk’s long-standing challenges by joining hands with President Lee Jae-myung,” expressing confidence by declaring, “I will win so that the exclamation, ‘It really works because Oh Joong-ki is doing it!’ will echo throughout the entire region.” After concluding the opening ceremony, Candidate Oh Joong-ki continued his field visits focused on people's livelihoods, including a visit to Pohang Jukdo Market with Party Leader Jeong Cheong-rae to greet merchants.
