이 후보는 또 "대구·경북 선거에 대해 걱정도 하면서 동시에 도민과 시민들을 믿는다는 말씀도 하셨다"며, "영남권 단체장 후보들 만남 계획에 대해서는 ‘모두 당선돼 오라’는 격려도 전하셨다"고 전했다.

다만 선거 지원과 관련해서는 구체적인 답변은 없었다. 이철우 후보는 "선거 기간 중 박 전 대통령께서 직접 나올 계획이 있는지 여쭤봤지만 특별한 답은 듣지 못했다"고 말했다. 다만 "국민들이 대통령을 만나고 싶다는 바람이 있다는 점을 평소에도 계속 전달해왔다"고 덧붙였다.
