【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항해양경찰서는 지난 8일 오후 8시 12분께 경북 영덕군 축산항 동방 약 256km(137해리) 해상에서 조업 중이던 어선 A호(80t급)에서 선원 B씨(60대)가 건강 이상 증세를 보여 긴급 이송에 했다고 9일 밝혔다.

당시 A호에는 선원 11명이 승선 중이었으며, B씨는 갑작스러운 건강 악화로 구조 요청이 접수됐다.

신고를 받은 포항해경은 인근 해역에서 경비 중이던 1000t급 경비함정 ‘1003함’을 현장으로 급파하고, 동해지방해양경찰청에 해경 헬기 지원을 요청했다.

1003함은 약 165km(89해리)를 고속 항해해 신고 접수 약 3시간 30분 만인 이날 오후 11시 42분쯤 현장에 도착했다. 해경은 단정을 이용해 B씨를 함정으로 옮긴 뒤 함정 내 의무실에서 원격응급의료시스템을 통해 응급 처치를 실시했다.

해경에 따르면 B씨는 혈압이 높은 상태였고 안면마비 증상을 보였지만 의식은 명료했던 것으로 전해졌다.

이후 함정은 육지 방향으로 이동하며 환자 상태를 지속적으로 살폈고, 9일 오전 4시 25분쯤 동해지방해양경찰청 포항항공대 소속 해경 헬기가 구계항 동방 약 74km(80해리) 해상에서 B씨를 인계받았다.

B씨는 오전 5시 30분쯤 포항경주공항에 대기 중이던 119구급대에 인계돼 인근 병원으로 이송됐다.

이근안 포항해양경찰서장은 “먼바다 어선에서 응급환자가 발생할 경우 육지 이송까지 장시간이 소요되는 만큼 이상 증세 발견 즉시 신고하는 것이 중요하다”고 말했다.

Pohang Coast Guard Station said Friday that it carried out an emergency rescue operation for a crewman who fell ill aboard a fishing vessel operating about 256 kilometers (137 nautical miles) east of Chuksan, Yeongdeok County, on Thursday night.

According to the Coast Guard, a distress report was received at approximately 8:12 p.m. on May 8 from fishing vessel A, an 80-ton-class boat carrying 11 crew members. A male crewman in his 60s suddenly showed symptoms of serious health deterioration and required urgent medical evacuation.

After receiving the report, the Pohang Coast Guard immediately dispatched its 1,000-ton patrol vessel “1003” that had been operating nearby and requested helicopter support from the East Regional Coast Guard Headquarters.

The patrol vessel traveled approximately 165 kilometers (89 nautical miles) at high speed and arrived at the scene around 11:42 p.m., about three and a half hours after the emergency call was received.

Rescuers safely transferred the patient to the patrol vessel using a small boat and provided emergency treatment through a remote medical support system inside the ship’s infirmary.

The Coast Guard said the patient showed symptoms of high blood pressure and facial paralysis but remained conscious.

The patrol vessel then headed toward shore while continuously monitoring the patient’s condition. At approximately 4:25 a.m. on May 9, a helicopter from the Pohang Aviation Unit of the East Regional Coast Guard Headquarters took over the patient about 74 kilometers (80 nautical miles) east of Gugae Port.

The patient was transferred to a 119 ambulance waiting at Pohang-Gyeongju Airport at around 5:30 a.m. and taken to a nearby hospital.

Lee Geun-an, chief of the Pohang Coast Guard Station, said, “When emergency patients occur on fishing vessels operating far offshore, transportation to land can take a long time. Immediate reporting is essential for rapid evacuation, and we will continue to do our utmost to protect lives at sea.”
