공천에서 배제된 현역 광역·기초의원들이 잇따라 탈당 후 무소속 출마를 선언한 데 이어 세 결집 행보까지 본격화되면서 선거 판세에도 적잖은 영향을 미칠 것이란 전망이 나온다.

국민의힘 경북도당 공천관리위원회는 지난 1일 포항지역 광역·기초의원 후보를 경선 없이 단수 추천했다. 대상은 포항지역 도의원 9개 선거구와 시의원 12개 선거구다.

하지만 이 과정에서 현역 의원들이 대거 공천에서 제외되면서 반발이 이어졌다. 일부 단수 추천 후보를 둘러싸고 음주운전 전력등 각종 의혹까지 제기되며 공천 심사의 공정성 논란도 여전히 회자되고 있다.

포항 제1선거구의 한창화 경북도의원은 국민의힘 탈당과 함께 무소속 출마를 선언했다. 한 후보는 “이번 6·3 지방선거 출마는 선택이 아니라 책임”이라며 “정당이 아닌 주민의 선택을 받겠다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “정당이 주민보다 위에 서는 순간 정치는 길을 잃는다”며 “주민을 위한 정치를 끝까지 이어가겠다”고 강조했다.

포항시 가선거구의 백강훈 포항시의원도 무소속 출마를 공식화했다. 백 후보는 “정치는 주민이 키우고 완성하는 것”이라며 “현장에서 쌓아온 경험과 성과로 시민들에게 평가받겠다”고 말했다.

또 “공천 과정에서 지역 민심이 충분히 반영되지 않았다”며 “끝까지 주민들과 함께하겠다”고 지지를 호소했다.

김진영 경북도의원과 안병국·이상범 포항시의원 등도 잇따라 탈당 후 무소속 출마 대열에 합류했다. 이들은 “정당이 아닌 시민만 믿고 출마를 결심했다”며 지역 민심에 호소하고 있다.

특히 이 같은 무소속 출마 움직임은 김정재 국회의원이 당협위원장을 맡고 있는 포항 북구 지역에서 두드러지고 있다. 지역 정치권 안팎에서는 공천 갈등을 조율하지 못한 데 대해 “당내 통합과 정치력 부재가 드러났다”는 비판도 나온다.

이런 가운데 무소속 출마를 선언한 후보들의 선거사무소 개소식이 잇따라 열리면서 선거 열기도 달아오르고 있다.

10일 포항 제1선거구의 한창화 경북도의원 후보와 백강훈 포항시의원 후보는 흥해읍 내 선거사무소에서 각각 개소식을 열고 본격적인 선거전에 돌입했다. 이날 오후 3시에는 한 후보가, 오후 4시에는 백 후보가 지지자들과 함께 세 과시에 나섰다.

행사장에는 지역 주민과 지지자들이 대거 몰렸으며, 포항시청년연합회와 흥해향토청년회가 두 후보에 대한 공개 지지 선언에 나서 눈길을 끌었다.

두 단체는 지지선언문을 통해 “시민 곁에서 실제 행동으로 지역 문제 해결에 나섰던 인물들이 제대로 평가받아야 한다”며 “정당 중심 정치보다 시민의 삶을 우선하는 책임 정치가 필요하다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “말보다 실천으로 검증된 후보들과 함께 지역 화합과 미래를 만들어 가겠다”고 강조했다.

한창화 후보는 제10대 경상북도의회 예산결산특별위원장과 제11대 경상북도의회 지진대책특별위원 등을 역임하며 포항지진 피해 지원과 재건 사업 추진 과정에서 활동해 왔다.

그는 개소식에서 “농어촌은 쇠퇴하고 청년은 떠나는 등 지역이 위기를 맞고 있다”며 “보여주기식 정치가 아닌 실질적인 변화를 만드는 정치로 주민들과 함께하겠다”고 말했다.

이어 “도의회 4선 경험을 바탕으로 지역 예산과 사업을 실질적으로 이끌어 온 만큼 외압에 흔들리지 않고 주민만 바라보는 정치를 하겠다”고 강조했다.

백강훈 후보는 포항시의회 지진피해대책특별위원장을 맡아 포항지진 피해복구와 진상규명 활동에 참여했으며, 관련 공로로 경상북도지사 표창을 받은 바 있다.

특히 포항지진이 촉발지진으로 규명되는 과정에서 지진공동연구단 활동 지원과 제도 개선 건의 등에 힘써왔다는 평가를 받고 있다.

지역 정치권에서는 국민의힘 공천 갈등이 무소속 연대 움직임으로까지 이어질 경우 보수 표심 분산과 함께 선거 구도 변화 가능성도 배제할 수 없다는 관측이 나오고 있다.

Han Chang-hwa previously served as chairman of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee of the 10th North Gyeongsang Provincial Council and as a member of the Earthquake Countermeasures Special Committee of the 11th Provincial Council. He has been actively involved in support and reconstruction projects following the Pohang earthquake.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Han said, “Rural communities are declining and young people are leaving, placing the region in crisis,” adding that he would “work with residents to create real change rather than engage in showmanship politics.”

He further stressed, “Based on my four-term experience in the provincial council, I have led regional budgets and projects in practical ways, and I will pursue politics focused solely on residents without being swayed by outside pressure.”

Baek Kang-hoon served as chairman of the Pohang City Council’s Special Committee on Earthquake Damage Countermeasures, participating in recovery efforts and investigations into the Pohang earthquake. He also received a commendation from the governor of North Gyeongsang Province for his contributions.

In particular, Baek has been credited with supporting the joint earthquake research team and proposing institutional reforms during the process in which the Pohang earthquake was officially recognized as an induced earthquake.
