신효철 후보는 “31년간 계속된 국민의힘 독점 정치를 끝내고 주민이 주인인 새로운 동구를 만들겠다”며, “이재명 대통령, 김부겸 대구시장 후보와 힘을 모아 반드시 승리하겠다”고 강조했다.

정한숙 예비후보는 “동구의 변화를 위해 더 큰 연대가 필요하다고 판단했다”고 밝히며, “주민 삶의 질을 높이는 정책 실현을 위해 신 후보와 함께 뛰겠다”고 말했다.

현재 동구청장 선거에는 신효철 민주당 후보, 국민의힘 우성진 후보, 정의당 양희 후보 등이 출마한 상황이다. 

양희 후보는 추가 단일화 가능성에 대해서는 선을 긋고, 사회적 약자 및 노동·복지 의제를 중심으로 끝까지 완주하겠다는 입장을 내놨다.

지역 정치권에서는 이번 민주당-조국혁신당 단일화가 범진보 진영 내 갈등 속에서도 현실적인 연대 가능성을 보여준 사례로 평가하고 있다. 

특히 전통적으로 보수세가 강한 대구에서 야권 후보 단일화가 실제 표심에 어떤 영향을 미칠지 관심이 집중되고 있다.

Preliminary Candidate Jeong Han-sook stated, “I determined that greater solidarity is necessary for the transformation of Dong-gu,” and added, “I will run alongside Candidate Shin to realize policies that improve the quality of life for residents.”

Currently, the Dong-gu District Mayor election features candidates such as Shin Hyo-cheol of the Democratic Party, Woo Seong-jin of the People Power Party, and Yang Hee of the Justice Party.

Candidate Yang Hee drew a line regarding the possibility of further candidate unification and announced her stance to see the race through to the end, focusing on agendas concerning the socially vulnerable, labor, and welfare.

Local political circles evaluate the recent unification between the Democratic Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party as an example demonstrating the possibility of realistic solidarity even amidst internal conflicts within the pan-progressive camp.
