이번 프로젝트는 AI 모델을 결합한 지능형 영상 감시 체계를 구축해 실시간으로 품질 결함을 감지하고 각종 안전사고를 예방하는 것이 핵심이다. 포항제철소는 올해 안으로 100대 이상의 CCTV를 활용한 AI 모델 개발을 완료해 품질 모니터링과 현장 안전 관리 체계를 한층 고도화할 계획이다.

이를 통해 작업자가 육안으로 상시 점검하지 않더라도 품질 불량 저감과 생산 장애 예방 등 공정 효율 향상 효과를 거둘 것으로 기대하고 있다.

현재까지 포항제철소는 43대의 CCTV에 AI 모델 적용을 완료했으며, 추가 29대에 대한 모델 개발을 진행 중이다. 여기에 연내 30대 이상의 CCTV를 추가 설치해 총 100대 이상의 지능형 감시망을 구축할 예정이다.

AI CCTV는 냉간압연 라인의 주요 공정 전반에 적용되고 있다. 냉연 부문에서는 철판 코팅 상태 확인과 이재 방지 업무를 수행하고 있으며, 향후 10건의 추가 기술 검증도 계획하고 있다. 전기강판 부문에서는 산세 품질 정량화와 미산세 검출을 담당하고 있으며, STS압연 부문에서는 화재 감시와 재료번호 자동인식 기능을 수행하는 등 적용 범위를 넓혀가고 있다.

프로젝트를 추진한 포항제철소 EIC기술부 관계자는 “이번 프로젝트는 데이터 기반의 정밀한 품질 관리와 선제적 안전 대응 체계를 구축하는 데 목적이 있다”며 “앞으로도 AI 기술을 현장에 적극 도입해 세계 최고 수준의 스마트 제철소 구현에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.

포항제철소는 이번 프로젝트를 통해 축적한 AI 기술과 운영 노하우를 바탕으로 향후 다른 생산 공정으로의 확대 적용도 검토할 방침이다.
