사건의 발단은 지난 12일, 국민의힘 경북선대위 발대식에서 임 의원이 한 발언에서 비롯됐다. 임 의원은 당시 국무총리였던 김부겸 후보에게 중부내륙철도 문경~상주~김천 구간 추진을 수차례 요청했으나, 김 후보가 관심을 보이지 않았다고 주장했다. 그러면서 “결국 추경호 후보가 힘써서 철도구간이 연결됐다”는 취지로 말했다.

권 위원장은 “김부겸 후보는 어느 당이든 대구·경북을 위해 필요한 일이라면 지역 사업 지원에 힘썼다”며 “도와달라고 해놓고, 선거를 앞두고는 허위사실로 흠집을 내는 건 파렴치하다”고 목소리를 높였다.

이어 “임 의원의 발언은 공직선거법상 허위사실 공표에 해당할 수 있다. 공개 사과와 발언 정정을 요구한다”며, 만약 흑색선전이 이어진다면 법적 책임을 끝까지 묻겠다고 경고했다.

Chairman Kwon also cited Rep. Im’s past press releases and media reports as evidence. He criticized, “Rep. Im himself promoted the inclusion of the budget for the Mungyeong-Sangju-Gimcheon high-speed electrification project when the government budget was passed in 2021,” stating, “It does not add up to claim that Candidate Kim played no role ahead of the election, when he previously stated that he secured the budget through consultation with the government.”

In fact, in December 2021, local media reports indicated that the budget for the Mungyeong-Sangju-Gimcheon high-speed railway project had been allocated, stating that “Representative Im explained the necessity of the project after consulting with the relevant ministries on several occasions.” Additionally, Representative Im revealed on his blog that same year that he had met with then-Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum to personally request state funding for pending projects in Sangju and Mungyeong.

Chairman Kwon raised his voice, stating, “Regardless of the party, Candidate Kim Boo-kyum has strived to support local projects whenever necessary for Daegu and Gyeongbuk,” and added, “It is shameless to tarnish his reputation with false information ahead of the election after asking for help.”

We demand a public apology and a correction of his statements,” warning that if the smear campaign continues, he will hold him legally accountable to the very end.
