【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=대구시가 제46주년 5·18민주화운동 기념식에 참석해 오월 영령의 희생을 추모하고 민주주의 정신을 되새겼다.

대구시는 18일 오전 광주광역시 동구 5·18민주광장에서 열린 기념식에 김정기 대구광역시장 권한대행을 비롯해 이재화 대구시의회 부의장, 2·28대구민주운동기념사업회 관계자 등 20명으로 구성된 대표단이 참석했다고 밝혔다.

이번 참석은 대구와 광주가 오랜 기간 이어온 ‘달빛동맹’의 연대 정신을 다시 확인하는 자리였다.

양 도시는 2013년 ‘달구벌’과 ‘빛고을’의 앞 글자를 딴 달빛동맹 출범 이후 매년 2·28민주운동 기념식과 5·18민주화운동 기념식에 상호 방문하며 민주주의 역사에 대한 존중과 영호남 화합의 가치를 공유해 왔다.

이 같은 협력은 실질적인 성과로도 이어졌다.

양 도시는 2023년 대구경북 민·군 통합공항과 광주 군공항 특별법의 동시 국회 통과를 이끌어냈고, 2024년에는 달빛철도 특별법 제정과 남부권 거대경제권 조성 협약 체결이라는 결실을 맺었다.

이와 함께 경제·산업, 행정, 문화·체육 등 다양한 분야에서 지속적인 교류와 협력을 이어가며 국가균형발전의 대표적 상생 모델로 평가받고 있다.

기념식 이후 열린 간담회에서는 정부의 ‘5극 3특 국가균형성장전략’ 추진 상황을 공유하고, 변화하는 지역 균형발전 정책 환경에 대응하기 위한 달빛동맹의 발전 방향을 논의했다.

김정기 대구광역시장 권한대행은 “2·28민주운동과 5·18민주화운동은 대한민국 민주주의 역사의 큰 물줄기를 만든 소중한 역사”라며 “달빛동맹을 통해 쌓아온 신뢰를 바탕으로 영호남 화합을 넘어 대한민국이 하나 되어 미래로 나아가는 기반을 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.
