DGIST는 오는 6월 15일부터 19일까지 대구 동대구벤처밸리에 위치한 Daegu Scale-up Hub (DASH)에서 ‘향기산업 전문가 양성과정’을 무료로 운영한다고 밝혔다. 참가 신청은 DGIST 후각융합연구센터 홈페이지를 통해 가능하다.

이번 과정은 교육부와 대구시가 지원하는 대학중점연구소지원사업의 하나로, 향기산업 실무형 전문인력을 양성하고 후각 융합기술을 기반으로 한 창업 및 사업화 가능성을 발굴하기 위해 기획됐다.

DGIST 후각융합연구센터는 그동안 후각인지과학과 감각분석, 향료 응용기술 등을 토대로 전문 교육을 꾸준히 운영하며 관련 분야 청년 인재 육성과 지역 산업 경쟁력 강화에 힘써왔다.

올해 교육은 이론 중심 강의에서 나아가 산업 현장에서 즉시 활용 가능한 실습 비중을 대폭 늘린 것이 특징이다. 참가자들은 후각 훈련과 감각평가, 향료 분석 및 응용 실습을 통해 향을 과학적으로 분석하고 이를 제품 개발과 소비자 평가, 효능 검증 등에 접목하는 실무 역량을 익히게 된다. 세부 프로그램은 교육생 수요와 산업 활용도를 반영해 구성된다.

국제적 수준의 교육도 제공된다. 프랑스 니스 소재 Université Côte d’Azur의 향미·향수 교육과정 책임자인 Jérémie Topin 교수와 향기산업 전문가 Jérôme Golebiowski 박사가 직접 참여해 현지 교육과정에서 활용되는 후각 훈련법과 감각 분석 기법을 전수할 예정이다.

DGIST는 이번 교육을 후각 융합 창업지원 프로그램과도 연계해 운영한다. 교육 참가 기업과 예비 창업자, 연구자를 대상으로 후각 기반 비즈니스 모델과 기술 실증, 데이터 활용 수요를 발굴하고, 유망 아이템에는 센터의 연구 인프라와 전문가 네트워크를 활용한 후속 지원을 제공할 계획이다.

또 향후에는 정밀 후각 자극 시스템과 EEG 기반 생체신호 측정·분석 환경을 활용한 실증 지원도 검토 중이다. 이를 통해 초기 창업팀이 자체 구축하기 어려운 고가 연구 인프라를 활용할 수 있도록 돕고, 제품과 서비스의 신뢰성 확보를 지원한다는 구상이다.

문제일 센터장은 “향료와 화장품, 식품, 바이오, 헬스케어 등 다양한 산업에 적용 가능한 후각 기반 전문교육을 지속적으로 제공해왔다”며 “올해는 교육 성과를 창업과 사업화까지 연결해 향기산업을 과학기술 기반 융합산업으로 확장하고 지역 창업 생태계 활성화에도 기여하겠다”고 말했다.

이번 과정은 향기산업에 관심 있는 대학생과 대학원생, 예비 창업자, 관련 업계 종사자 등을 대상으로 진행되며, 한·불 전문가 간 기술 교류와 창업 연계를 통해 국내 후각 융합기술 산업 생태계 조성에 새로운 전기를 마련할 것으로 기대된다.

DGIST announced that it will operate the "Fragrance Industry Expert Training Course" free of charge from June 15 to 19 at the Daegu Scale-up Hub (DASH), located in the Dongdaegu Venture Valley. Applications can be submitted through the website of the DGIST Olfactory Convergence Research Center.

This course is part of the University Key Research Center Support Project, funded by the Ministry of Education and Daegu City. The DGIST Olfactory Convergence Research Center has consistently operated specialized education programs based on olfactory cognitive science, sensory analysis, and fragrance application technology, striving to foster young talent in related fields and strengthen regional industrial competitiveness.

A key feature of this year's program is a significant increase in the proportion of practical training that can be immediately applied in the industrial field, moving beyond theory-centered lectures. Participants will acquire practical skills to scientifically analyze scents and apply them to product development, consumer evaluation, and efficacy verification through olfactory training, sensory evaluation, fragrance analysis, and practical application exercises. The detailed program is structured to reflect trainee demand and industrial applicability.

Education of an international standard will also be provided. Professor Jérémie Topin, Head of the Flavor and Perfume Curriculum at the Université Côte d’Azur in Nice, France, and Dr. Jérôme Golebiowski, an expert in the fragrance industry, will participate directly to impart olfactory training methods and sensory analysis techniques used in local educational programs.

DGIST will operate this training in conjunction with its Olfactory Convergence Startup Support Program. Targeting participating companies, prospective entrepreneurs, and researchers, the program aims to identify demand for olfactory-based business models, technology demonstrations, and data utilization. For promising items, the plan is to provide follow-up support utilizing the Center's research infrastructure and expert network.

Furthermore, support for future demonstrations utilizing precision olfactory stimulation systems and EEG-based biosignal measurement and analysis environments is also being considered. The plan is to help early-stage startup teams utilize expensive research infrastructure that is difficult to build on their own, and to support the securing of reliability for their products and services.

Center Director Moon Jae-il stated, "We have continuously provided specialized olfactory-based education applicable to various industries, including fragrances, cosmetics, food, biotechnology, and healthcare." He added, "This year, we will connect educational outcomes to startups and commercialization to expand the fragrance industry into a science and technology-based convergence industry and contribute to revitalizing the regional startup ecosystem."

This program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the fragrance industry, as well as prospective entrepreneurs and industry professionals. It is expected to pave a new turning point in establishing a domestic olfactory convergence technology industry ecosystem through technical exchanges and startup linkages between Korean and French experts.
