강은희 후보 측이 서중현 후보를 공직선거법상 허위사실 공표 혐의로 고발하자, 서 후보는 이를 정치적 입막음 시도라고 강하게 맞섰다.

강은희 후보 캠프는 지난 22일 서중현 후보를 공직선거법 위반 혐의로 대구경찰청에 고발한 것으로 알려진다. 

강 후보 측은 서 후보가 방송 인터뷰와 유세, 현수막, 선거 공보물 등에서 ‘교육감 재임 중 250억 원 증식’이라는 표현을 반복적으로 사용해 사실을 왜곡했다고 주장했다.

그러면서 “재산 증가는 비상장 주식 가치 상승 등 객관적 자료로 설명할 수 있는 부분”이라며, “공직 재임 중 부정 축재인 것처럼 몰아가는 것은 명백한 허위이자 왜곡”이라고 반박했다.

또 “유권자의 합리적 판단을 흐리게 하는 행위에 대해서는 끝까지 법적 책임을 묻겠다”고 강조했다.

이에 대해 서중현 후보는 26일 기자회견을 통해 “이번 고발은 치졸한 정치 공세이자 명백한 입막음 시도”라고 반발했다. 

그는 강 후보의 재산이 24억 원에서 281억 원으로 대폭 늘어난 점을 지적하며 “시민들의 상식적인 검증 요구는 지극히 정당한 것”이라고 주장했다.

이와 함께 강 후보 배우자와 관련된 차명주식 신고 누락 의혹, 위니텍 경영 개입 의혹, 백지신탁 위반 가능성 등에 대해서도 공개적인 해명을 요구했다. 

서 후보 측은 “공보물이나 현수막 어디에도 ‘불법’이나 ‘부정’이라는 단어를 쓰지 않았다”며, 무고죄 고발 등 추가적인 법적 대응도 고려하겠다고 밝혔다.

선거가 정책 경쟁보다는 의혹 제기와 공방에 집중되면서, 지역 교육계와 유권자들 사이에서는 사실관계에 대한 철저한 검증이 필요하다는 의견이 커지고 있다. 

이번 고발이 실제 수사로 이어질지, 선거 막판 어떤 변수로 작용할지 주목되고 있다.

In response, Candidate Seo Joong-hyun pushed back at a press conference on the 26th, stating, “This complaint is a petty political attack and a clear attempt to silence [the candidate].”

Pointing out that Candidate Kang’s assets had increased drastically from 2.4 billion won to 28.1 billion won, he argued, “The citizens’ demand for verification based on common sense is entirely justified.”

Along with this, he demanded a public explanation regarding allegations of failing to report nominee shares related to Candidate Kang’s spouse, suspicions of interference in Winitech’s management, and the possibility of violating blind trust regulations.

Candidate Seo’s side stated, “We did not use the words ‘illegal’ or ‘corruption’ anywhere in our campaign materials or banners,” and announced that they would consider additional legal action, such as filing a complaint for false accusation.

As the election focuses more on raising suspicions and engaging in disputes rather than competing on policy, opinions are growing among the local education community and voters that a thorough verification of the facts is necessary.

Attention is now focused on whether this complaint will lead to an actual investigation and what kind of variable it will act as in the final stages of the election.
