이날 오전 군위군 소보면 내의리 신공항 예정지 현장에는 김부겸 후보를 비롯해 한병도 원내대표, 한정애 정책위의장, 복기왕 국토교통위원회 간사, 손명수 의원 등 민주당 지도부가 집결해 사업 추진 현황을 점검했다.

주민들과의 간담회에서 김 후보는 “TK 신공항은 대구의 미래 100년을 책임질 국가 전략사업”이라며 “군공항 사업계획 승인과 민간공항 기본계획 고시 등 행정절차가 거의 완료된 만큼 더 지체할 이유가 없다”고 밝혔다.

특히 김 후보는 “여당과 협의한 1조원의 마중물로 조기 착공에 속도를 내겠다”며, 재원 확보와 정부와의 협력 의지를 강조했다. 이는 추경호 국민의힘 후보가 주장한 ‘국가재정 책임 강화’에 맞불을 놓는 동시에, 민주당이 실행력에서 결코 뒤지지 않는다는 메시지로 해석된다.

주민대표들은 신공항 조기 착공을 거듭 요청했다. 박정애 비상대책위원은 “너무 오래 기다렸다. 이제는 실제 공사가 시작되는 모습을 보고 싶다”고 호소했다.

김 후보는 “정쟁에 매몰될 때가 아니라 대구 미래를 함께 준비할 때”라며 “집권여당과 협력해 신공항을 반드시 현실로 만들겠다”고 강조했다.
