더불어민주당 김부겸 후보는 ‘변화’와 '일할 수 있는 인물론'으로 정면 돌파를 선택했다. 선택한 유세장은 동성로와 서문시장, 달성공원 등을 택했다. 김 후보는 대구의 중심이자 변화를 갈망하는 젊은 층과 변화가 필요한 이 모이는 동성로에서 '대구 변화'의 당위성을 역설했다. 동시에 추 후보의 안마당이자 보수의 상징인 서문시장에도 정면으로 진입해 "바꿔야 산다"는 민심을 파고들었다.

과거 대구에서 국회의원을 지내며 다져놓은 '인물론'을 바탕으로, 보수 일색의 대구 행정을 깨고 여야를 넘나들며 예산을 따올 수 있는 '통합형 리더십'을 증명하겠다는 정면돌파형 선택이다.

이에 반해 국민의힘 추경호 후보는 '보수 적통성' 강화를 통한 지지층 총결집에 나섰다. 선택 장소는 서문시장과 수성못 일대였다.  서문시장은 대구·경북 보수 민심의 '심장부'이자 정치적 고비마다 보수 지도자들이 찾았던 상징적 공간이다. 특히, 31일 유세에는 박근혜 전 대통령이 다시금 유세 현장에 모습을 나타냈다. 논란은 있지만 박 전 대통령의 등장으로 보수 진영이 확실히 결집하고 있다는 신호가 왔기 때문이다.

탄핵 이후 사실상 첫 선거 지원 강행군을 이어온 박 전 대통령의 동행은 흩어진 보수 표심을 완벽히 결집하고 '보수 적통성'을 확실히 굳히겠다는 전략적 포석으로 풀이된다. 이어 저녁에 찾은 수성못은 유동 인구가 많은 대구의 대표적 힐링 공간으로, 주말을 맞은 젊은 층과 가족 단위 시민들에게 친근하게 다가가 표심을 확장하겠다는 의도가 깔려 있다.

추 후보는 "대구경북신공항의 확실한 성공과 대구 경제 도약을 위해서는 현실성 없는 허공의 숫자가 아닌, 기획재정부 장관과 경제부총리를 지낸 검증된 실무 능력으로 대구 GRDP 200조 시대를 열겠다“며 ”보수의 자존심 대구를 지키기 위해 압도적인 지지를 모아달라“고 호소했다.

오 후보는 "지난 8년간 경북 도정은 행정통합 답보, 신공항 재원 논란, 산불 대처 미흡 등 실정과 무책임으로 점철됐다“고 강조하고 ”이제는 무능한 리더십을 심판하고 경북의 대전환을 이뤄내야 할 때다. 지방 소멸 위기에 처한 경북을 살리기 위해 중앙정부와 확실하게 소통하고 산불 피해 지역 미래산업 기반을 구축할 수 있는, 민생을 최우선으로 돌보는 도지사가 되겠다“고 지지를 호소했다. 

국민의힘 이철우 후보는 '대구·경북 원팀'과 '중단 없는 전진'을 강조했다. 그가 선택한 주말 마지막 유세 장소는 경북 북부권(문경·안동 등), 경산과 포항 지역 및 전통시장 등이었다.
