DGIST는 4일 오후 2시 교내 E7 컨실리언스홀(L29호)에서 KAIST 최성현 교수를 초청해 ‘제32회 DGIST Distinguished Lecture Series(DLS)’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 강연에는 차세대 무선통신과 네트워크 분야의 세계적 연구자로 평가받는 최성현 교수가 연사로 나선다. 최 교수는 현재 KAIST 전기및전자공학부 교수이자 IEEE(전기전자공학자협회) 석학회원(Fellow)으로 활동하고 있으며, 서울대학교 교수와 미국 필립스연구소 시니어 연구원, 삼성전자 부사장 등을 역임하며 학계와 산업계를 아우르는 연구 성과를 이어오고 있다.

강연 주제는 ‘연결을 넘어: AI-RAN, 6G, 그리고 지능형 네트워크 인프라의 미래(Beyond Connectivity: AI-RAN, 6G, and the Future of Intelligent Network Infrastructure)’다.

최 교수는 이날 강연에서 인공지능이 핵심적으로 적용되는 AI 네이티브 네트워크(AI-Native Network)와 AI 기반 무선접속망(AI-RAN)을 중심으로 차세대 통신 기술의 발전 방향을 소개한다. 또한 무선 네트워킹과 모바일 컴퓨팅 분야의 최신 연구 동향을 살펴보고, 6G 시대를 뒷받침할 지능형 네트워크 인프라의 미래 비전을 제시할 예정이다.

특히 AI와 통신기술의 융합이 네트워크 산업 전반에 가져올 변화와 혁신 가능성을 집중적으로 다룰 예정이어서 관련 연구자와 학생들에게 미래 ICT 기술의 흐름을 이해할 수 있는 기회가 될 것으로 기대된다.

이건우 DGIST 총장은 “차세대 통신 기술 발전을 선도해 온 최성현 교수를 초청하게 돼 뜻깊게 생각한다”며 “이번 강연이 연구자들에게 AI와 6G 기반 미래 네트워크 기술에 대한 이해를 높이고, 새로운 융합 연구의 가능성을 모색하는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.

한편 DGIST Distinguished Lecture Series는 세계적 석학과 전문가를 초청해 최신 연구 성과와 글로벌 학술 동향을 공유하는 정기 강연 프로그램이다. DGIST는 DLS를 통해 국제 학술 교류를 확대하고 인공지능·통신 분야 연구 경쟁력 강화에 나설 계획이다.

DGIST is organizing a special lecture to forecast the next-generation communication environment led by artificial intelligence (AI) and 6G technology.

DGIST announced that it will host the "32nd DGIST Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS)" on April 4 at 2:00 PM in the E7 Consilience Hall (Room L29) on campus, featuring Professor Choi Sung-hyun of KAIST.

Professor Choi Sung-hyun, recognized as a world-class researcher in the field of next-generation wireless communication and networks, will serve as the speaker for this lecture. Professor Choi currently serves as a professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at KAIST and as a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). He has continued to produce research achievements spanning both academia and industry, having previously served as a professor at Seoul National University, a senior researcher at Philips Research Laboratories in the U.S., and a vice president at Samsung Electronics. The lecture topic is “Beyond Connectivity: AI-RAN, 6G, and the Future of Intelligent Network Infrastructure.”

In this lecture, Professor Choi will introduce the direction of development for next-generation communication technologies, focusing on AI-Native Networks and AI-RAN, where artificial intelligence is applied at a core. He will also examine the latest research trends in wireless networking and mobile computing, and present a future vision for intelligent network infrastructure that will support the 6G era.

In particular, as the lecture will focus intensively on the changes and potential innovations that the convergence of AI and communication technologies will bring to the entire network industry, it is expected to provide relevant researchers and students with an opportunity to understand the trends of future ICT technologies.

DGIST President Lee Kun-woo stated, “I consider it meaningful to invite Professor Choi Sung-hyun, who has led the development of next-generation communication technologies,” adding, “I hope this lecture will serve as an opportunity for researchers to deepen their understanding of future network technologies based on AI and 6G, and to explore the possibilities of new convergence research.”
