DGIST는 영국의 대학평가기관 QS(Quacquarelli Symonds)가 최근 발표한 ‘2027 QS 세계대학평가(QS World University Rankings)’에서 ‘교수 1인당 논문 피인용 수(Citations per Faculty)’ 부문 국내 1위를 차지했다고 밝혔다. 지난해에 이어 2년 연속 국내 최고 성적이다.
QS 세계대학평가는 학계 및 산업계 평판도, 교수당 학생 수, 연구 성과, 국제화 수준, 지속가능성 등 9개 항목을 종합적으로 분석해 발표하는 세계적 권위의 대학 평가로 평가받는다.
이 가운데 교수 1인당 논문 피인용 수는 대학 연구진이 발표한 논문이 국제 학계에서 얼마나 활발히 활용되고 있는지를 보여주는 지표로, 연구의 질과 학문적 영향력을 가늠하는 핵심 평가 요소로 꼽힌다.
DGIST는 최근 5년간 교수 1인당 논문 피인용 횟수 409.5회를 기록해 세계 평균인 59.9회를 크게 웃돌았다. 이에 따라 지난해에 이어 올해도 해당 지표 만점인 100점을 획득했다.
특히 최근 2년 연속 이 부문에서 만점을 받은 대학은 전 세계적으로 11개교에 불과하다. DGIST는 이들 대학군에 포함되며 세계 최고 수준의 연구 경쟁력을 인정받았다. 국내 이공계 특성화대학 가운데 동일 지표에서 2년 연속 만점을 기록한 사례는 DGIST가 유일하다.
2004년 설립된 DGIST는 2011년 대학원, 2014년 학부 과정을 개설한 비교적 젊은 대학이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 연구 분야에서는 세계 유수 대학들과 견줄 만한 성과를 거두며 국제 학계에서 존재감을 확대하고 있다.
DGIST는 최근 미래 연구 역량 강화를 위해 피지컬 AI, 휴먼 디지털 트윈, 퀀텀센싱을 핵심 전략 분야로 선정하고 관련 연구 조직을 신설했다. 또한 AI대학 설립과 AX(인공지능 전환) 공동연구랩 구축을 추진하며 지역 인재 양성과 산업 생태계 혁신에도 힘을 쏟고 있다.

DGIST Ranks First in Korea for Two Consecutive Years in QS Impact Rankings… Standing Shoulder to Shoulder with the World’s Top Universities
The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) has once again confirmed its status as a global research-focused university by demonstrating its research impact in world university rankings.
DGIST announced that it ranked first in Korea in the "Citations per Faculty" category in the "2027 QS World University Rankings," recently released by the British university ranking institution QS (Quacquarelli Symonds). This marks the highest ranking in the country for two consecutive years, following last year.
The QS World University Rankings are considered a globally authoritative university evaluation that comprehensively analyzes and publishes results across nine categories, including academic and industry reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, research performance, level of internationalization, and sustainability. Among these indicators, the number of paper citations per professor serves as an metric showing how actively papers published by university researchers are utilized in the international academic community; it is considered a key evaluation factor for assessing research quality and academic influence.
Over the past five years, DGIST recorded 409.5 paper citations per professor, significantly exceeding the global average of 59.9. Consequently, it earned a perfect score of 100 on this indicator for the second consecutive year.
Notably, only 11 universities worldwide have received a perfect score in this category for two consecutive years. DGIST's inclusion in this group of universities acknowledges its world-class research competitiveness. DGIST is the only specialized science and engineering university in Korea to have achieved a perfect score on the same indicator for two years in a row.
Established in 2004, DGIST is a relatively young university that opened its graduate program in 2011 and its undergraduate program in 2014. Nevertheless, in the field of research, it is achieving results comparable to those of leading universities worldwide and expanding its presence in the international academic community.
Recently, DGIST selected Physical AI, Human Digital Twin, and Quantum Sensing as core strategic fields to strengthen its future research capabilities and established new research organizations related to these areas. Furthermore, by pursuing the establishment of an AI College and the construction of the AX (AI Transformation) Joint Research Lab, the university is also focusing its efforts on fostering local talent and innovating the industrial ecosystem.
