【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=경북교육청이 라오스 현지 교육기관에 한국어 도서 3,500여 권을 기증하며 국제 교육나눔에 적극 나섰다.

22일 경북교육청에 따르면, 이번 도서기증은 도내 27개 공공도서관의 참여로 이뤄졌다. 각 도서관에서는 상태가 좋은 불용 도서 중 한국어 도서 약 3,500권을 엄선해 라오스의 5개 교육기관에 전달할 예정이다.

해외 도서기증 사업은 ‘2026년 해외 도서기증 사업’의 일환으로 추진된다. 도서관별로 기증 도서를 선별한 뒤 소독과 정비, 분류, 스티커 부착, 포장 작업을 거쳐 해상과 육상 운송으로 라오스 현지에 도서를 전달하게 된다.

이번에 도서가 전달되는 기관은 라오·한국대학 유·초등학교, 비엔티안중학교, 라오스국립대학, 라오스국립도서관, 로고스 외국어학원 등 총 5곳이다. 현지 학생들과 학습자들은 이 도서를 한국어 교육 및 독서활동, 한국문화 이해에 활용하게 된다.

경북교육청은 지난 2021년부터 해외 도서기증 사업을 이어오고 있으며, 이번까지 누적 기증 도서는 약 1만8,000권에 달한다. 교육청은 버려질 뻔했던 도서를 해외 교육 자원으로 재활용함과 동시에, 국제 교육 협력과 문화교류에도 힘을 보탰다는 평가다.

임종식 경북교육감은 “어려운 국제 정세와 물류 여건 속에서도 도서기증 사업을 계속할 수 있어 의미가 남다르다”며 “전달되는 도서들이 라오스 학생들의 한국어 학습과 한국문화 이해에 귀중한 밑거름이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education has actively engaged in international educational sharing by donating approximately 3,500 Korean language books to local educational institutions in Laos.

According to the Gyeongbuk Office of Education on the 22nd, this book donation was made possible through the participation of 27 public libraries within the province. Each library carefully selected about 3,500 Korean language books from among unused books in good condition and plans to deliver them to five educational institutions in Laos.

The overseas book donation project is being implemented as part of the "2026 Overseas Book Donation Project." After selecting the donated books by each library, they undergo disinfection, maintenance, classification, sticker application, and packaging before being delivered to Laos via sea and land transport.

The five institutions receiving the books this time are the Lao-Korea University Kindergarten and Elementary School, Vientiane Middle School, National University of Laos, National Library of Laos, and Logos Foreign Language Institute. Local students and learners will utilize these books for Korean language education, reading activities, and understanding Korean culture.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education has been continuing its overseas book donation program since 2021, and the cumulative number of donated books has reached approximately 18,000 to date. The Office of Education is credited with repurposing books that would have otherwise been discarded into overseas educational resources, while simultaneously contributing to international educational cooperation and cultural exchange.

Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education Lim Jong-sik stated, "It is particularly meaningful that we were able to continue the book donation program despite difficult international circumstances and logistical challenges," adding, "I hope these donated books will serve as a valuable foundation for Laotian students' Korean language learning and understanding of Korean culture."
