대구시는 26일 오후 대구 엑스코에서 산업계와 연구기관, 혁신기관 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘5극3특 성장엔진 육성 전략포럼’을 개최한다고 밝혔다.
이번 포럼은 정부가 추진 중인 ‘5극3특’ 정책과 연계해 대구·경북권의 전략산업 육성 방향을 논의하고, 국가균형발전을 견인할 성장동력 발굴 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
‘5극3특 성장엔진’ 정책은 지역별 강점 산업을 중심으로 미래 성장 기반을 구축하고 수도권 집중 현상을 완화하기 위한 국가균형발전 전략의 일환이다. 정부는 권역별 핵심 산업을 선정해 대규모 투자와 신산업 육성을 지원하고 지역 중심의 혁신 생태계 조성에 나설 방침이다.
이를 위해 재정과 세제, 금융, 기술개발, 인프라 구축, 규제 개선 등 다양한 정책 수단을 연계한 지원체계를 마련하고 있으며, 지역의 투자 프로젝트와 산업 육성을 뒷받침할 계획이다.
포럼에서는 산업연구원이 대경권 성장엔진 후보 산업에 대한 분석 결과를 발표한다. 발표에서는 지역 산업 기반과 기업 투자계획, 성장 가능성, 국가 산업정책과의 연계성 등을 종합적으로 검토할 예정이다.
이어 대구정책연구원이 대구·경북 산업 현황과 발전 방향을 소개하고, 지역 대표 기업과 혁신기관, 지방자치단체 관계자들이 참여하는 토론을 통해 전략산업 육성 방안과 정부 지원 방향에 대한 의견을 공유한다.
산업통상자원부는 권역별 의견 수렴과 추가 검토를 거쳐 성장엔진 산업을 최종 선정할 예정이며, 향후 지역별 특성에 맞는 지원 정책을 구체화할 계획이다.
최미경 대구시 미래혁신정책관은 “이번 포럼은 대경권의 산업 경쟁력을 높이고 미래 성장동력을 발굴하기 위한 논의의 장이 될 것”이라며 “대구시와 경북도는 지역의 강점 산업이 성장엔진으로 선정될 수 있도록 정부와 긴밀히 협력해 나갈 계획”이라고 말했다.

Daegu City announced that it will hold the ‘5 Regions, 3 Special Growth Engines Strategy Forum’ on the afternoon of the 26th at Daegu EXCO, with approximately 100 attendees including representatives from industry, research institutes, and innovation organizations.
This forum was organized to discuss the direction of fostering strategic industries in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region in conjunction with the government’s ‘5 Regions, 3 Special Growth Engines’ policy, and to seek ways to discover growth engines that will drive balanced national development.
The ‘5 Regions, 3 Special Growth Engines’ policy is part of a balanced national development strategy aimed at building a foundation for future growth centered on regional strength industries and mitigating the concentration of power in the Seoul metropolitan area. The government plans to select key industries by region, support large-scale investment and the nurturing of new industries, and establish a region-centered innovation ecosystem.
To this end, a support system is being established that links various policy measures, including fiscal policy, taxation, finance, technology development, infrastructure construction, and regulatory improvements, with plans to support regional investment projects and industrial growth.
At the forum, the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET) will present the results of its analysis on candidate industries for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region's growth engine. The presentation will comprehensively review the region's industrial base, corporate investment plans, growth potential, and connectivity with national industrial policy.
Following this, the Daegu Institute for Policy Studies will introduce the current status and future development directions of industries in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. Opinions on strategies for fostering strategic industries and directions for government support will be shared through a discussion involving representatives from leading regional companies, innovation institutions, and local governments.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to make the final selection of growth engine industries after gathering opinions from each region and conducting further reviews, and intends to concretize support policies tailored to the specific characteristics of each region in the future. Choi Mi-kyung, Director of Future Innovation Policy at Daegu City, said, “This forum will serve as a venue for discussions to enhance the industrial competitiveness of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region and discover future growth engines,” adding, “Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province plan to cooperate closely with the government so that the region’s strong industries can be selected as growth engines.”
