 6일 대구 계명아트센터에서 열린 축제의 하이라이트 ‘제20회 DIMF 어워즈’에서는 중국 고전소설 홍루몽을 재해석한 공동 폐막작 ‘보옥’이 최고 영예인 대상을 차지했다. 이어 창작뮤지컬상에는 완성도 높은 무대를 보여준 ‘보들레르’가 선정되는 등 지난 20년간 DIMF가 쌓아온 글로벌 교류와 창작 발굴의 성과를 유감없이 증명했다.  

이날 시상식에 참석해 직접 축하와 감사의 뜻을 전한 추경호 대구시장은 “멋진 공연을 펼친 배우들과 무대를 준비한 모든 관계자, 그리고 뜨거운 사랑을 보내주신 시민들이 계시기에 대구는 명실상부한 아시아 최고의 뮤지컬 도시”라며 “대구를 세계적인 뮤지컬 도시로 더 크게 키우겠다”는 강력한 의지를 피력했다.

추 시장은 “현재 국내 뮤지컬 산업은 전체 공연시장 매출액의 약 30%를 차지하는 핵심 문화 콘텐츠로 성장했지만, 여전히 해외 라이선스 공연이 절반을 차지하는 실정”이라며 “지난 20여 년간 국내 창작뮤지컬 육성을 선도해 온 대구에 이제는 국가가 전폭적으로 힘을 실어주어야 할 때”라고 강조했다.

특히 추 시장은 대통령 지역공약이자 국정과제인 ‘K-컬처 시대를 위한 콘텐츠 국가전략산업화’의 조속한 추진을 위해 시상식을 찾은 최휘영 문화체육관광부 장관을 직접 만나 담판을 지었다. 이 자리에서 대구 문화예술계의 숙원인 ▲국립뮤지컬콤플렉스 조성 ▲국립근대미술관 조성 ▲국립오페라단 대구 유치 등 핵심 문화 인프라 구축을 위한 국가 차원의 전폭적인 지원을 강력히 건의했다.

대구시는 이번 20주년 축제의 대성공을 발판 삼아 단순히 보고 즐기는 축제를 넘어, 부가가치를 창출하는 ‘뮤지컬 산업화’ 단계로 도약하겠다는 방침이다.  추경호 대구시장은 “대구가 대한민국을 넘어 세계가 찾는 글로벌 뮤지컬 허브로 성장할 수 있도록 모든 역량을 쏟겠다”며,“핵심 문화 인프라 조성을 차질 없이 추진해 문화가 도시의 경쟁력이 되고 시민의 자부심이 되도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Celebrating its coming of age this year, the 20th DIMF lived up to its 20th-anniversary reputation by staging a record-breaking 34 works. With a program even more diverse and rich, ranging from one-man plays to a cappella musicals, it captivated domestic and international musical industry professionals and audiences.

At the '20th DIMF Awards,' the highlight of the festival held at the Keimyung Arts Center in Daegu on the 6th, Chinese classic novels The joint closing production "Baoyu," a reinterpretation of *Dream of the Red Chamber*, won the Grand Prize, the highest honor. Following this, "Baudelaire," which showcased a highly polished stage production, was selected for the Creative Musical Award, fully demonstrating the achievements in global exchange and creative discovery that DIMF has built over the past 20 years.

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho, who attended the awards ceremony to personally convey his congratulations and gratitude, stated, "Thanks to the actors who delivered wonderful performances, all the staff who prepared the stage, and the citizens who have shown such passionate love, Daegu is undeniably Asia's best musical city." He expressed a strong determination to "further develop Daegu into a world-class musical city."

Mayor Choo emphasized, "While the domestic musical industry has grown into a core cultural content accounting for approximately 30% of total performance market revenue, overseas licensed productions still make up half of the market." He added, "Now is the time for the government to fully support Daegu, which has led the nurturing of domestic creative musicals for the past 20 years."

Building on the great success of this 20th anniversary festival, Daegu City plans to leap beyond a mere spectatorship to leap into a stage of "musical industrialization" that creates added value. Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho stated, "We will pour all our capabilities into ensuring that Daegu grows into a global musical hub sought after by the world, extending beyond Korea," adding, "We will proceed with the construction of key cultural infrastructure without setbacks so that culture becomes the city's competitiveness and a source of pride for its citizens."
