문경경찰서는 지난 7일 점촌4동 주민센터에서 장애인용 전동의자차와 농기계를 대상으로 '뒷바퀴 조명등 설치 사업'을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 이규봉 문경경찰서장을 비롯해 경찰과 문경시, 운전면허시험장 등 유관기관 관계자 40여 명이 참석했으며, 장애인용 전동의자차와 농기계 등 모두 74대에 야간 시인성을 높이는 조명등을 설치했다.

이번 사업은 장애인용 전동의자차를 대상으로 한 뒷바퀴 조명등 설치 사업으로는 경북에서 처음 시행되는 사례다. 야간 이동이 잦은 교통약자의 안전을 확보하기 위한 선제적인 교통안전 대책이라는 점에서 의미를 더했다.

문경경찰서는 외곽지역을 중심으로 가로등과 도로 조명이 부족한 환경에서 운전자들이 전동의자차나 농기계를 제때 발견하지 못해 발생할 수 있는 추돌사고 위험을 줄이기 위해 이번 사업을 추진했다. 조명등 설치를 통해 야간 식별성을 높여 보다 안전한 이동 환경을 조성한다는 계획이다.

사업 추진을 위해 문경경찰서는 운전면허시험장과 협력하고 조명장치 설치업체인 에스라이팅과 협의를 거쳐 총 6천만 원의 사업비를 확보했다. 앞으로도 안전장비 보급과 교통안전 홍보를 확대해 교통약자 보호 정책을 지속적으로 추진할 방침이다.
